I live in the Austin area(Leander) but will be up there the weekend of the Feb. 7-8 for a volleyball tournament at the Dallas convention center. I am hoping to get away a bit and take my son fishing for whites. Can anyone recommend a creek that we can go to not too far from there? Not asking for your special spot. Feel free to PM me.

Tony

Interesting info considering how cold it has been.

I saw your pics on the crappie forum of those sandies. Like I said over there, if you drop that little jig into PK the sand bass will have it long before a crappie could get it.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

White rock creek, Rowlette creek, hickory creek. White rock creek may be your best bet this time of the year.

Now I'm curious about " the run". Are they heading to shallow water like a crappie does for spawn? Should I start targeting rocky areas or bush/timber in shallower water? Don't really keep alot of sand bass for eating, but love catching just about anything!

many moons ago I chased the striped fish
on the Brazos the male sand bass and actual stripers where half way up to the Granbury spillway from lake Whitney by mid January ...right under hwy 67 to be exact
the fish I have been finding are on the same time frame in a different river system in ft worth
and the other day I noticed it may be happening in the trinity river as well
I saw a huge flock of gulls and cormorants bombing an area of the river
and 3 guys shoulder to shoulder chunking baits at the mess

they are taking that bait well
but they chew em up pretty bad fast
one bait is typically done after about 20 or so fish
that newest version with the UV enhancement is the BOMB thumb

I would venture to say the larger versions are deadly on big fish
hybrids and stripers for sure
they make 3 sizes and I am using the smallest ...the lil fry
about 1.25 of an inch long
the super fry amd mr fry are really large baits
bet they smack lips as well as this here lil thing ...

the aerial assault has been going on for a while as well

I guess that I am too late. I better stay foot, and intercept them as they swim up north.

they aint easy to find
I do a lot of walking and pitching
they are currently under a thick pc of brush for some reason
probably due to local fishing pressure is my thoughts
