I've been to El Salto 11-times, but I am heading to Pichacos next month, for the first time!

Skeeter TZX200 is spot on...however, right now the big fish are being caught in very good numbers at El Salto. 100+/day/boat at Picachos, but 50+ including many 7-10 lbs at Salto. Contact Stoby at bigbassfishingmexico.com for daily reports.

I was at Anglers Inn Picachos Jan 9-13. My wife and I had spent a day there back in May and she caught a 9-12 and I had a 7-11. This time we did not have any big fish -- our group of 7 had one 7 lber, a handful of fives and a sprinking of fours. That's pretty much what we expected. You can also expect to catch 150-200 bass per boat per day, most of them in the 1.5-3 lb. class. It is truly unbelievable to throw into a little cut the size of your boat's front deck and catch 5 in five casts.

The beauty of it is that they'll eat just about anything within reason -- frog, topwater, flipping, chatterbait, spinnerbait, etc. I used a swim jig a lot of the time to cover water. Color didn't matter, retrieve speed didn't matter, just get it in front of 'em. You'd catch a fish on a spinnerbait and there'd be another trying to take it out of its mouth. Or you'd lose a fish and start to reel in and another would grab your lure and take off with it.

There are some big fish in the lake, but they don't seem to be predictable. The guides are still learning. If you go in with that mindset, you'll have the time of your life. I strongly recommend Anglers Inn, they'll take good care of you. My only regret is that we didn't join the two members of our group of 7 who went onto El Salto for a few days. Got an email from them last night and they've already caught some big ones.

We're heading back on a combo trip in May/June.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I was talking to Ron Speed's and heard that Pichachos is on fire for numbers.. Hear one boat had 298 fish on Monday or so.. Not a lot of big fish.. Some sixes and sevens being caught..

Been there twice with Speed.. Can't beat the facilities or service..

Headed back in March.. Can't wait..

Got questions.. call me..

Just came back from 2 days on El Salto and 3 days on Picachos. Caught 100 on El Salto. Biggest was 5# 11 oz. Most were about 4 #. The lake has a load of water hyacinth, so offshore fishing only.

Caught 350 on Picachos with most in the 2 -3 # range and some at 4#. Scrounger heads with flukes and watermelon red mag lizards. Guides are very green, but anxious to learn.

Lodges were good, staff good and food excellent.

Give this lake 2 more years and the fishing for 5-6 # will be incredible. Met Ron Speed Jr at the gate in DFW and again at Picahos, great guy. Going to open his lodge back up on Comedero.

I fished Salto for six days just a couple of weeks ago, and it is as good as it's ever been. I've fished Salto, Bacarrac, Comedero, and Mateos for probably a total of fifteen times. If you've never been, any outfitter is going to be the best you've ever been with. I'm not an expert, but if I were you I'd listen to someone who knows their stuff. From watching this board, I'd say Boeing Driver is the guy you need to listen to. PM him for the real skinny.

Anyone that wants to plan a trip, feel free to PM me or just call my cell 901-489-4768 anytime. I'm recovering from spinal surgery now and would be glad to help anyone that wants to plan a trip there.

Hope you are doing well and have a fast recovery. You got to make those landings a little softer.

Ha, that's a good one Don. It actually happened boarding the jet. I now know that the entry door on the right side is several inches shorter than the one on the left side of the B-757. Who woulda thunk it?

May be a dumb question, but why don't they flip and punch the hyacinth on El Salto? No need to I suppose, but I think that would be a blast with 4-8lbers all day...
