Anybody ever camped Lake Meredith up in the Panhandle? I'm thinking of doing some high plains camping next month if the weather doesn't turn real brutal. Plan on hitting Palo Duro one or two days then possibly Lake Meredith.

Funny, I replied the same but it didn't post for some reason. My Navy reserve unit used to train at Alibates. Trees for shade, enough open area for tents, and we built open bonfires. Just make sure there's no burn ban before you do that.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to see if I can reserve a tour of Alibates. Might even take my canoe for some of the side canyons on the Lake. I'm going to call headquarters up there and see what else I can find out. Hoping for good weather.

Thanks for the info Ron. I see you're from Fritch. I was hoping someone local would chime in. McBride Canyon sounds interesting. I was looking at it and Mullinaw Creek on different maps, they look to be very remote, which is good. Plum Creek looks interesting also. I've never been up there, but the pictures I've been seeing of the area are amazing. I was thinking of spending 2 days at Palo Duro and 1 at Meredith, but I might flip that. Wish I had 3 weeks instead of just 3 days.

Thanks Ron. I'm probably crazy for heading up there this time of year. I just need to get out of East Texas and see some wide open spaces. Gonna leave the canoe at home. Just hike the canyons and camp. And grill if there's no burn ban. And maybe drink a drink or two.

I plan on camping in McBride. Hope to see some Mule Deer. Do you ever see any Pronghorn Antelope up that way? Then I'll camp at Palo Duro for one night on the way back. I'm afraid if I go to Palo Duro first, I might not want to leave.

Thanks for the advice on the pronghorns. Long range forecast calling for snow. Don't mind camping in it. Don't want to drive home in it though.
