I'm sure these are good rods, but 650-700 dollars, are they that good?! Who here has tried one out?

I haven't tried one, but what the heck is up with the price of rods nowdays. Abu also has a rod out that's $500. Seriously an Abu Garcia rod they want $500 for.

There's isn't a rod blank out there worth more than about $150 IMO.. After that you are paying for hype and name cause components are relatively inexpensive. Something is worth what someone is willing to pay.

I have a couple in the 150 range, but most of mine are around 100. They do everything I need them to. I bet those are great rods though. What happens if you accidentally drop it in the lake lol?

I've made this analogy to my son talking about rifle scopes...... In rods 200$ will buy you a 95% rod..... Are you willing to pay triple or more for that other 5%?? I am not....my experience and touch are enough to make up any difference.

Something is worth what someone is willing to pay. I agree. I found out where I can get blanks that are awesome for $90. I already have 7 rods made from them that were made by a custom rod maker (who is no longer in business). They are heads above my $350 brand-name rods. When I need another rod, I'm just going to order the blanks and have a local rod maker build them for me. I figure after good guides, cork, reel-seat and labor it'll be about $200 total.

I agree that I am glad I own some $700 rods and don't have to convince myself that I am so good I could catch just as many fish with a broom handle. I couldn't. My $700 rods really do perform better than my $250 rods. And they cost more because the materials to make them, along with Japanese labor, is more expensive. If a person cannot tell a difference between a rod with titanium guides and one with steel guides, or a rod that is made with the best blanks vs IM6 blanks, just means that they haven't attained a level in the sport where it makes sense for them to invest in the better products. That's all. It's ok. That is why there is all levels of gear.
I don't have a $100k Ranger boat. Don't feel like it would benefit me with where I fish. So I have a POS used Nitro. Haha. When I get to the point where the boat is holding me back, I'll cross that one off my list. Right now. I don't need one, want one, or have one. So I talk [censored] about people that spend big bucks on boats. And I say now I can drag more fish from my scratched up boat, yadayadayada....
It's about what some dudes want. I want the best rods, reels, and terminal tackle with the best lures. Couldn't give a [censored] about pretty boats or cool fish finders.

I have a few Dobyns rods that I am a little embarrassed about the price. Everyone has their own individual limits. $700 Rods and $300 swimbaits? I'm out.

It's all about your level of means ($$), some folks don't blink at a 1/2 million for a car, or 700 for a rod. I am not one of them but I would gladly give it a try.

From what I have seen most of the 13 Fishing rods are made in china. The archangel is advertised as made in japan. Worth $650 to $700 I doubt it. However the profit margin for each one will probably be like selling 10 or more of there other rods. sounds like smart business practice at the very least.

I doubt there is as much profit as you'd think. I know on my Steez rods that just the guides cost around $160. The rod blank, with all the crosswoven carbon fiber and the added technology is around a $200 blank. Add in a custom "Air Beam" reel seat and other "parts" the cost can easily be $400 in materials. Factor in Japanese labor, advertising, shipping, etc, and I bet the profit margin on a "halo" product probably isn't a great as you think it is. I would bet profit percentages would actually be higher on Chinese made entry level brands and if a company is lucky profit DOLLARS would be similar on a $700 retail rod vs. A $150 retail rod. One good thing about buying entry and mid level gear from a company that also makes super high performance gear is the trickle down effect of the technology. I know that a Daiwa Tatula 7'4" frog rod is very similar to my Steez 7'4" SVFXBD frog rod. Some differences are obvious. The use of stainless guides vs. Titanium. The alconite guides instead of SiC. Slightly heavier reel seat. Etc. I'm sure the blank is even pretty similar. The rod weighs a few ounces more. But, that's some of the reasons for a rod to cost a few hundred more. As bad as I really wouldn't like to admit, my Team Lews Pro reels are prettyuch every bit as good as my Steez reels. In some ways they are even better. And I can buy two Lews for the price of one Steez. Likewise, I can buy 2 or 3 Falcon rods for the price of one Steez rod. Now, what I REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND!!! How can a spinning reel cost $800-$900?????? That one blows my mind. But, then again, I despise spinning gear. It hurts my finger when I cast them.
