This is the new FISH CAMP extraordinaire.

If just the guys and gals I've fished the Yegua with show up on the 17th we will have party like no other and this time I'm fishing too! I will work out the details with the park and reserve the pavilion by the boat ramp as headquarters for the Potluck, fishfry, evening social, fly tying, gear and gadgets and BS story telling.

There is a very big fireplace in the pavilion that will be at the center of it all. I envision expeditions to Newmans Bottom leaving every two hours all day Saturday until about 2PM. Any kayaker can either paddle up from the lake or down from Newmans with the option of paddling or shuttle back to the park. I'm encouraging everyone to keep a few fish for a big old time fish fry Saturday evening as we BS about the days adventures.

For those that would like a shorter paddle Nails creek is another option and is easy to find too. Several of you experienced Yegua Yakers can expect to be asked to lead a newbee or two around the creek and to share what you know to be true..

I've been thinking about a kayak or pirogue. Well be down there doing some duck hunting and might stop by and get some pointers on what to get. I sure got the urge to try that type of fishing. Reading ya'lls post ya'll seem to do good and have a good time doing it. Those kayaks you seem to be able to get them in some good fishing spots where my big boat can't get. Good luck guys and look forward to meet some of you.

I would like to mention that there is very little water flowing in the creek. So bank anglers are at a disadvantage. If you were to go there, you will have to make a pretty good walk downstream. And you better take a bunch of extra tackle. The fish are close to the bottom and you will get hung up a time or two or four, or more. Sure would like to see a good flood come down the creek and clean it out. It's over due. If we should receive the amount of rain they have forecast for this area, it should provide us with some decent fishing for a week or so. Come on rain. A six to eight foot rise sure would be nice. A ten to twelve foot rise would even be better. Wash it out, clean it out. That would also push fish many miles upstream.
But I thought I would give the bank anglers a heads up before making a long drive for nothing.

I made the trip to the State park Wednesday to confirm details for the January 17th kayak/fishing get together and dropped by the creek to satisfy my curiosity. The Yegua has gone back to clear and clean which means the fish will move back down the creek to deeper pools. Until it rains and brings up the muddy you will need a boat to avoid a very long walk and most likely the skunk...

Went to bed early Wed. for an early arrival at Newmans bottom on Thur. Should have taken one more look at this forum and would have seen Mr. Tedricks post. I would have stayed home and avoided the skunk. Saw how clear the water was and knew I had to try a very long walk toward the lake. Started fishing way beyond the overflow pipes and all the way back and not even a bump. I have fished that creek for 30 years and am still amazed at how quickly whites will fill that creek and likewise how quickly they will leave it. I have caught lots of fish in very skinny water, but when mother nature isn't just right you get the SKUNK! I do enjoy your wonderful videos, but if you could post them a little earlier in the evening it would save us old guys a long walk! lol

That's a tough walk Baldy Locks. I have plans to kayak tomorrow. There has been over 1 1/2 inches of rain in the last 12 hours. So it should be better tomorrow.

It will take about 24 hours for the run off to hit Newmans bottom. Look for some decent stringer being caught with in the next several days. Good luck and have fun. I might try to swing something, but it looks like Monday at the best for me. Too much on my plate. I might be able to get down there tomorrow, but I'm not real sure just yet. Seems like a red jig head with a yellow curl tail grub works great in murky water conditions. Just a little tip if you happen to go go out there. Chartreuse tail works good too.

We received 1.5 inches on the west Yegua. Get all of these three sections combined, and look for at least a six inch rise by tomorrow. Should be good fishing for a few days. Can't wait to see how folks do.

By those gauges it looks like the Yegua near the lake should rise up nearly a foot. That's enough to muddy it back up so the whitebass will be on the move again.. When that surge of muddy water reaches the upper lake it should trigger another migration of bigger whitebass to move into the creek. I'll bet the fishing at Wolf pond is going to be HOT HOT HOT...

I happen to be out in dime box today so I went by the creek to look at it. Water is stained and has come up about two inches. Tomorrow it should be up a few more inches. I say a few more inches because I was able to look at two of the creeks on my way there and there wasn't a lot of running water in them. Not real sure why they didn't lock the gate to Newmans bottom. Water was crossing the road way in three places. There was someone there in a green truck. It appeared they had brought a kayak to fish out of, because there was a rack on this truck set up for doing just that. The low water crossing was running pretty good. This should get those staged fish in the deeper holes moving. As far as the amount of water flow coming down the creek, it probably won't be enough to show a bunch of fish from the lake how to get up there, but a few more hundred is better than none at all. We need one good rise to bring em up this creek by the thousands.I am looking at making a trip on Sunday to try it again from the bank. But I will be reading post on here before I do so. Hope to see some good reports........
And I really hope I am wrong on the water level.

Got a little hiccup in our 17th of January 2015 get kayaking together at Nails Creek Park. It seems another big group has the pavilion by the boat ramp reserved for that day. Time for Plan B.. We might stage the whole daylong event at Newmans Bottom. I've inquired about renting a big tent and setting it up near the trailway bridge as headquarters for the day. Expeditions up and down the Yegua would originate from there. Shuttles would run to and from the park all day. All of this depends greatly on the weather for that Saturday.
