I was at Buescher State Park yesterday when the truck from A.E. Wood arrived with 1,000 trout, 8-10 inches long. Big bass began slaughtering them within minutes! It looked like redfish chasing mullet at the coast.

The fellow next to me had caught 3 rainbows and had them on a stringer. While I was talking to him he yelled "That bass has my fish!" He yanked on the stringer and fought for a couple seconds with what looked to me to be an 8+ pound largemouth, before it shook its head and spit out the three trout!! OK, I've seen snakes and turtles take fish on a stringer, but NEVER a bass!

Plenty of topwater action today as the bass continued to chase trout. Difference this morning was that the trout were not biting, at all. I think they are too busy trying to keep from being bitten!

Try throwing the Deps rainbow trouts on main lake points at Fork in around 22-25 feet and see what happens.

Get a Huddleston, or if you have a larger budget, a deps slide swimmer. They both catch giant fish and are great trout imitators.

Savage gear line thru is another good option, it's based off a 3d scan of an actual trout. They're reasonably priced and come in multiple sizes.

There are a TON of options to chose from, the swimbait craze has been going on for quite a while now and there are all kinds of options on the market now. But if you had to chose two to begin with, its tough to beat a Huddleston or the Savage 3D trout. Best bang for the buck. They swim great, have very good paint jobs, and won't break the bank

Im sure with me, what would happen is that I would find a tree in 25ft of water with that bait. LOL

That Deps is expensive. I think I will throw a Huddleston first and see what happens.

Give the dude with the trout on the stringer $10 for one of them, put it on a hook and toss it in. Hang on tight.

I used to buy four or five truckloads a year for a 100 acre bass lake I took care of. Back then, it was because compared to everything else I could buy for bass food, rainbow trout was among the cheapest.

Rainbow trout are not listed in the regulations as gamefish, so I think you can use them as bait. I just wanted to share what I thought was an amazing sight, a huge bass enfulfing trout on a stringer.

Cool story. Rainbow trout are defiantly illegal as bait. Check with "River Run Guide" Shane Davies and ask about his earlier striper career using rainbow trout below the dam @ PK.
