what is the water level like in Pringle Lake at POC this time of year? I have a boat that will draw about 10" on plane. Could I cut across the lake at low tide? Any advice is appreciated. Thx

I've never been there in our V bottom but I've heard you need to get skinnier than 10". Don't take this for gospel.

If it's that deep on plane that's not the place you want to head. Ten inches on plane is ok it's the twenty you'll need after you stop that will get you in trouble.

There is a sandy hump that you have to cross to get to the entrance to Pringle. It seemed to be more shallow than much of Pringle.
I would say don't try it.

We have a 19' Shoalwater Flats Cat. We go in to Pringle occasionally. You have to stay on plane going in and keep the white markers to your right going in and left going out. We have TowBoat US just in case we make a booboo. Not saying we've ever done that............ LOL
The best thing to do is to follow someone in the know in for your first time!!! If you have a graph, turn on the tracks and then you'll have it to follow. Right now on a falling tide, it's usually good fishing at the mouth when Pringle is draining. There is also a hump out in Pringle but we tend to skirt it.
Good luck

Follow me and you'll be in some deep trouble. I usually won't run someone aground on purpose but I sure don't change my route to help out a tuna schooner.

Thx for all the help. I think I can probably use my sonar to stay in enough water to be safe if I will stay in or just outside the mouth. Doesn't look like I want to try going to the back side with these low winter tides.

Navigating in the back country does NOT include staring at a sonar, it won't do you any good. Your eyes will tell you what's up. Here's the quick list:
Dark bottom: will be a little deeper, the tide doesn't go low enough to expose it. On a flats tunnel hull, that's safe running, it'll be at least 6" deep.
White sand? Very shallow
The waves will be your best guide, six inch wave means at least 12 inches deep. What you want to avoid always is the oil slick shoal water, that's a airboat tow instantly.

Google earth will show your channels and cuts, study it carefully and you can get an idea of where to run. Hopefully you can catch enough fish to move to a true shallow running hull. It's nice to be able to go where you want without being scared about running aground.
