Question from a Reader of our Blog asked, "What fishing flies have we been using to fish for Trout this Season?" In hopes of answering his question, decided to post an article, Three Suggested Fishing Flies for Rainbow Trout. Hope others find it useful, too. It includes details on how we tie the fishing flies... easy to tie, easy to fish...!

Great information!!

I had asked about flies for stocked trout the other day. The following is noted in the article:

Additionally, rumor has it that the Gold ribbed hares ear nymph is a good imitation of Purina Trout Chow pellets that hatcheries feed Stocker Trout.

Made it to the Blue Saturday; limited out with six Rainbow Trout. Video Clip. Used the Near Deere and Zebra Midge to get a few. As well as a COAF Guadalupana.

Here is a link to the articles section of a partner website our Web Admin has been working on. It pulls in the article about the Three Suggested Fishing Flies for Rainbow Trout with other related articles to other patterns posted in the past. May prove useful to some who would like to tie them as well... StockerTroutFishing.com.

One of the three suggested fishing flies worked today; was able to take a limit of stocker trout using a BH GRHEN. Cold temps today; even had to break ice from the rod guides at one point. Today's Video.

Cool video. I didn't see no birds. Much better place to fish than Northwest Part in Irving. All the birds steal all the trout before we can catch any.

Thanks Moonriver! Went back again... Two of us limited out at Waterloo today. Even better, was able to try a Micro Fishing Rod on Stocker size Trout. Rod worked well... Near Deere was the fishing fly that worked this round.Today's Video.

I've been catching a ton of fish in the guad on the near deer as well. Rust color has been working the best. I was pulling fish out from in between all the bait chunkers under the dam this weekend. I also landed a few nice ones last weekend over 20 inches after they stocked. Wasn't really fair though, they would hit just about anything

Great to hear the Near Deere is working in your area. Was not able to fish for trout today but did get a quick trip to the local pond and catch five Bass. No Bruisers and slower paced fishing but still fun! All went for the Near Deere. Today's Video.

More detail on a variation of the Near Deere Fishing Fly - a productive fishing fly tied on a small jig. This one uses Olive Marabou for the tail and Brown Flash Chenille for the body. Simple pattern that is a consistent producer of Trout as well as other fish in our area! Today's Video.

Fished Beavers Bend State Park in Oklahoma on Saturday. Used a Five Weight Fly Rod/Reel and fished a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and trailing Prince Nymph. Worked several pools and runs along Spillway Creek.

Hooked a couple of Trout but lost them shortly after when they threw the fishing fly. Also, hooked and landed two nice Rainbow Trout - 18" and 15.5" trout that put up a great fight (as well as a great dinner Saturday evening - see Grilled Plank Recipe).

Fish went for the Prince Nymph but suspect a GRHEN would have worked as well as others were hooking up using them! Tied Near Deere and COAF Griffith's Gnats for the trip; skipped the GRHENs. Next time bring GRHENs.

Fun stuff! Saturday's Fishing Action.

Update: Thanks for joining us today. Appreciate everyone bearing with us; good to know that the Chat feature requires additional steps for Listeners to chat with us. Going forward, we will plan to find other means for Listeners to send in their questions! Looks like the test failed. We were disconnected at some point and did not find out until after the show! The Team is regrouping; thanks for your patience!

We continue to work through issues with the Spreaker’s Chat feature and the connectivity of iFishRadio. We believe we have identified a workaround for taking questions from Listeners and resolved the connectivity issue. For planning purposes, we would like to re-start the beta test at 10PM Central! Thanks again for your patience!

Quick trip to Bethany for some Switch Rod casting practice. Managed three Bass that went for a White Near Deere this round. Similar to the "swing the rod slowly retrieve" that worked on the trout at Waterloo in Denison and at Frisco Commons, it worked on the Bass at Bethany as well! Fun stuff! Today's Video. Also, of the three suggested fishing flies, setup a Near Deere and GRHEN on a tandem rig to get the Trout to bite this past weekend. Most went for the GRHEN but was good to have the Near Deere on the line as well...Saturday's Video and Sunday's Video.

Fighting a cold here; hate it knowing that trout are biting in our area - North Texas and Oklahoma. To make matters worse, our friend in Australia sent a couple of reports of trout biting in Oz! Even sent pics; added them the bulletin board ...Post.

He has been using the Olive Near Deere we sent him several weeks ago. So far, he is having the same issue we had while fishing the Blue River... trout follow but turn away. Luckily, it happened to other fishing flies in the fly box, too. Sounded like deja vu from our last trip to the Blue!

two flies that always catch trout for me:
1. a jigfly- just a 1/100 oz jig with marabou or rabbit fur tail and similar body(instead of cutting off the excess marabou after tying in the tail, twist it into a rope, adding a little spit and palmer it up the hook shank, or use chenille. You can add a little flash
2. a #16 marabou streamer with beadhead. Use above method for tying in the marabou; dark olive or light olive will catch them-p-

I tied clousers and deceivers with purple and yellow color patterns. I call them my Tiger flies. I thought they would be good for fishing in Louisiana.
