Hey yall!

The second front of the season knocked a lot of the fish off the flats and into the channels. I spent last Thursday fishing with MECE along the canals looking for some nice fish and we found them.

The flounder were very stubborn! We started the day with a lot of short strikes. I would get the thump and paddle over the flounder as they sat with my lure in their mouth. I'd eat a burger and have a drink just for the flounder to never eat the lure. Pretty much how they acted all day long.

MECE started off the day with a new personal best redfish!

We were killing the rat reds and dink trout for most of the morning. Around 8:30-9AM the winds picked up and the bigger trout came to play. We caught a easy limit of trout to 20".

I had been releasing all my fish until my gal texted me to keep fish around lunch time. Thaaaaanks babe! I started fishing the main canal with a slow twitch twitch pause. All the trout were sitting on the drop off. You could fish the main channel all day with nothing more than a perch but as soon as you hit that dropoff you would get slammed. They all had parasites on them telling me they were still sitting up against that mud dropoff on the bottom.

I was throwing the usual swimbaits. Electric chicken is my go to but this is the first time all year I've fished clean water so I had to switch it up. A natural(casticas), glow, white, or yellow colored baits were gaaaame over!

Decided to check on some shallow water spots with all the sun we've had. Ricky and I hit the water on Sunday.

The trout bite was slooow for us but I know some other kayakers nearby caught a limit. Dinks galore was the term they used haha.

We left out some fishbites while we waded the area. I made a mistake of leaving the clicker on without engaging the reel so we missed a nice screamer about 1 minute into our wade. I walked back to rebait and hit a chunky 26" red.

The rest of the day was off and on. LOTS of drum sitting up shallow with reds mixed in. Fish will probably be staging up shallow again soon mid-mornings. Get some good polarized lenses! There is a lot of good fishing left in the year especially if it gets nice and warm with a cold blast! I could only hope.

Till Next Time
Life is good!
