I don't know anything about that barge, but fishing is never a waste of time, just some opportunities are better than others - LOL.

If you go let us know how you do!

I wish somebody would put in a good barge here above deep water. I'd buy a yearly pass!!!!

Been hearing that the morning bite is the best, then it dies down after awhile. Minnows or jigs. Only way to know is to find out for yourself! Have fun and stay warm

I haven't been able to fish this year so don't have any first hand information.

However my slip neigbhor states fishing has been good at night at his slip. His slip is located across from the Joe Pool fishing barge, on the ramp side. He has his slip bushed out and has an underwater mercury vapor light at the front of his slip.

Were you talking about Lynn Creek or Cedar Hill state park barge? The fishing usually better at Lynn Creek

Well I accomplished my two goals.A-get thumped and B- get thumped on my jigs I hand tied.
However It was the smallest crappie I've caught all year and one sand bass.only seen two short fish caught while I was there, tried about every color I had in the box .there was tons of shad in there also.

I was talking about the Cedar Hill State Park barge.

From what I have told by various people who have fished both the last three years the Lynn Creek barge has only been good for catching carp.

At one time it was a great crappie barge then they moved it close to shore in the current position to make room for more boat slips in the deeper water.

Hey EZ, the barge is getting better crappie wise. I fished it heavily last winter and spring and did extremely well. There are loads of shad around the entire barge, I'll give it a couple more weeks they will be hitting full swing.

As for as Cedar Hill, I haven't Fisher that place as much. I remember about 2-3 years ago they had a nice run going on over there. Haven't been back since, kinda getting the itch to visit back over that way

I'm there every weekend. Took home 8 keepers yesterday. Get there before they open and don't waste your time past 9 or 9:30. Sometimes the bite will pick back up around 5 to 8 or so. The more you go the more you will learn. I use jigs and minnows but have been doing best on minnows lately. You're not going to wear them out like in the creeks but for it being so close to home I can't pass it up sometimes. Wish I had pics for you but they're all filleted in the freezer right now.

I caught 2 crappie and a bass early this morning. Others caught 1 to 3 also. The bite was over by 8:00AM. They are just beginning to come in. It will only get better from now on.

I was using jigs - an orange 1 1/2 inch shad. Others were using minnows. It did not seem to matter. They bit for a short while at sun up and then quit.

they open everything and close everything at the same time, they actually come through and clear everyone out exactly at 10.

I talked with a guy at the Park barge this afternoon. He stated he fished the Lynn Creek barge this morning from 6:30-8:30, when he had to leave for church. He stated he took 15 home with him, probably caught around 50.

He decided to try the Park barge this afternoon instead of driving across the lake. He had not caught anything at the Park barge, didn't even get any hits.

He stated he fished a stationary rod with minnow and jigged a second rod. Biggest crappie were caught on the minnows, mainly dinks hitting the jigs.

Don't know how true this is, just reporting what I was told.

Did you ask him how many of those 15 were over 10 inches? I'm there every weekend. I have a hard time believing that story. They aren't in that thick yet.

As I stated, I don't know the man and don't know if he was telling the truth or not. I take people at their word until they prove me wrong.

Since he stated he caught around 50 I would assume the ones he kept were legal.

You have a dozen there TVB so he is only claiming three more than you are showing.

He also stated he had not had a hit from the Park barge.

Seems as if he would lie about both if he was going to lie about one but who knows.

All I can do is report what I am told and state this is what I was told since I don't fish either barge but fish my slip at the Park marina.

No problom ez. Just stating my opinion. No offense intended. It took all day for me to catch those.

Grenada - Caught those all off minnows. I use both jigs and minnows but they seem to do better off minnows out there.

None taken, just pointing out all I can report is what I am told and will state this is what I am told. smile

Both of you did better than I did at my slip at the Park marina. I caught 1 12" white crappie and 1 18" black bass on Thursday, nothing on Friday and nothing this afternoon. And when I say 1 keeper crappie that was the only crappie I caught. frown

I fished a few hours each afternoon. A fellow slip holder told me that they were biting after dusk at his slip but I could not stay that long.

At least you agree with him on that. He stated he used both but caught the bigger fish off minnows. smile

And he may have exaggerating on the total number caught since he said around 50 instead of giving an exact number caught. Fishermen do exaggerate from time to time. roflmao

Have a hard time believing this since I've never caught anything there. But hey I always use jigs, may have to get minnows. Are they inside or just outside? I may try it later. I got a little green light they may come to, I know the shad will.

Hey, I didn't mean to start anything. I was just providing a report on what I had been told about both fishing barges on Joe Pool.

Since I no longer fish barges I have to rely upon those who do. When I'm at my slip I walk over to the Park fishing barge and ask those there how the fishing is going. I have a vested interest in the Park barge since my slip is just across from it and if they're catching, maybe I'll catch a few. roflmao

It's rare for anybody to say they have fished both barges but it does happen from time to time.

I've fished both of them, Cedar Hill state park one is closer, but Lynn Creek is better IMO.

I usually fish the Cedar Hill State Park side and that's where I had the best of luck . I haven't been in a while but every since they moved the barge on Lynn Creek side I never had any success . I want to get back out there because they probably moving in . I usually do good at night there when the shad pile up in there I also catch a lot of sandbass too

Went to Joe pool this morning from 6 to 8, not a single bite. Fishfinder was cleared with no sight of fish any where.

I fished my slip for a few hours this afternoon while I did more clean up on the pontoon and slip area. Amazing how big a mess an area can become when you are away for months.

Since I had the rods set in holders I just used minnows on them. Had the same minnows on when I left that I started with. Guess I need to concentrate on one thing or the other. roflmao

I didn't see many people on the Park barge. However people were starting to come in around 5:30, as I left. I didn't walk over and ask how they were doing. It would have made me feel terrible to find out they were doing great when I had just struck out. roflmao

It's slow right now. The warm weather has messed things up. Gotta wait for another cold snap. Maybe tomorrow or Tuesday.

Same results as thump_addict. 11/30 evening bite was slow. 2 throwbacks and one big thump that felt like a keeper. But it will get better.

Kenny(?) did a good job blocking out all that light though.

Kenny is a very good crappie fisherman and an even better person. He was the first person to take the time to teach me how to jig for crappie. This was years back before they moved the barge. Been addicted to the thump ever since.

Sorry should have been more specific. The barge at Lynn Creek lets in a ton of light through the windows. He covered them with trash bags to make it a little darker inside the barge.
