Just curious if buying a boat is even worth looking into. As bad as it sounds a boat is all I want in life right now since all I do when I'm not working is fish.

I'm single and 21 and currently living with my mother due to personal reasons. My truck is finnaly paid off. I have a modest amount of bills witch I pay on time.

I really don't have any credit yet. A co signer is an option.

I work full time and make enough to pay my bills fulfill basic needs and have plenty left. If I was living on my own it obviously wouldnt be that way.

I just want something used or new in the 12-14 grand range. All aluminim xpress G3 tacker etc..

I clearly know nothing about the boat buying business. but I know I'm tired of the kayak.

I would give Ken at reclending a call. With good payment history on your truck, your credit may not be as bd as you think. They can do a "soft pull" which won't go against you and see where you are with your credit rating.. Also, you should consider getting a couple of low limit credit cards, buy a few low dollar items and pay the card off. That will help you start building a credit history. Last but not least, start saving something foe a down payment. Some lenders may consider you if you are going to put enough down on a purchase. They just frown on lending to people with no skin in the game and want to buy with $0 down. If your truck is paid off, there's your collateral for a loan. There are more options than you think.

call the guy at reclending. If I hear you right, you want to see what monthlies would be, etc. you will have to have full insurance if getting a loan, but I learned the hard way thats not bad to have even if you have it paid off. DO NOT BUY NEW! I got my pantera Basscat used and for less than half what it should have cost. Be patient, find a great deal and pull the trigger!

Wait until January or February, you can probably get a good deal on newer boat from a fair weather fisherman that will be trying to get out from under payments

We love these threads that include advice about paying cash VS financing. A nice manageable loan, no matter the product is not bad money management. Some have the opinion that bad money management is dumping large amounts of cash into anything at all. The argument is that money invested gains interest and provides a pad in case of a real emergency. A lower interest rate loan with EXTRA PAID EACH MONTH TO GET THE BALANCE DOWN QUICKER, for some is smart. Sitting on the sidelines while trying to save can be very frustrating.
I know in my own case, I like seeing money safely in the bank and invested and making a manageable boat payment. We pay an extra 1/2 payment in the winter and triples in the summer. Every extra dollar paid comes off the loan principle while keeping the cushion. Having a good down payment also helps put you in a better position when it comes time to sell as well. Time spent relaxing and enjoying family time on the water is priceless.
Again, this is my opinion. Two sides of the coin for this topic.
Let us know if we can help.
Thank you,
Ken

Hey Ken I spoke to you last year about my situation, but here we are a year later and I think i might be able to pull something off, but need a few questions answered. I am filing as 1099 subcontractor for family business.(Brother and I) My credit score mid will be above 735 and im currently showing about 7500 in my personal savings. Im looking for a loan about $14. Truck is paid off really no bills that would show up other than CC and I pay them off every month. Tracking my income might be tricky because currently about every 10-14 days I write myself a check out of the company account. I know at the end of the year me and my brother will split whatever monies less operating and that will be a GOOD chunk. I could wait and pay cash but I really would rather do a loan because paper is cheap right now. Are there any boat loans available with bank statements as proof of income anymore? I did loans for about eight years in the late 90s and till the financial crash.

HELP

I can put money down and would finance for whatever term as long as it makes sense.

Thanks

Everything sounds good until you get to the income part. Lenders like one of two things to prove income, a W2 or a tax return. I am guessing you do not have a W2 so that leaves a tax return. It all comes down to "provable income". Things like 1099's and bank statements only show the flow coming in. They are interested in the out as well because that leaves what is spendable to cover the monthly nut. Sometimes if scores are high enough and everything is very clean, lenders might waive the proof of income. You need to know that only happens sometimes. If asked to prove it, there is no way around it.
Let us know how we can help.
Thank you,
Ken

The problem with a used boat is no matter how clean it is or how good it runs they brake. Usually at the worst time ? My 95 stratus 201 with a 225 evinrude was so clean good compression well taken care of - so I thought. I paid 13 grand for it in 2000 good deal right ? Took it out 6 times and lower unit blew up. 6 months later power head went - in the next year or two - changed steering cables live well cables gas gauge senders in tanks - an axel etc etc it was like everything was falling apart. This boat was very clean. I sold it and bought a 04 triton 21 x brand new - sold it to a buddy in 2014 - very clean nice boat. In ten years I had the hydraulic steering deal at the motor resealed - a bilge pump replaced - tune ups - fuel lines -maintenance - and finally 9 years into it I lost a coil. Never any major issues - never broke down. Now I just bought a 2015 trx22 pro elite I shopped around and saved a bunch money - buy at the right time. Having 1 payment isn't to bad just don't over purchase and don't make 2 payments !!! Call Texas boat world 254 699 9151 Talk to Wes Walker - tell him what you want and he can hook ya up - he did me. Tell him Gino said for you to call, there good folks.

Jesus first - then the rest will fall into place.

Id say buckle down for a year and you can likely pay cash for it.
