Got a 4 lb. bass last night, about 11pm, in the Mandalay canal. 1/16th oz.crappie tube jig. ASt least that what my hand held scale said, He was much bigger than this pic would indicate. Very thick bodied as well.

It holds some HUGE crappie and bass! Back in the day i used to walk it from NW north, and it was full of fish. Been awhile since i fished it though. I park on Las Colinas Blvd, in the street, by the Cellar.

Hooked one that looked to be in the 7-8 lb range, fought her for a LONG time, till she went airborn by the Smith Landing footbridge and spit the jig out, She was hefty to say the least. I got a pic of the four pounder but haven't pulled it from my phone yet.

Kool! Can`t wait to see that. I never knew los Colinas had so much fishable water. I think I`ll give that creek a try with a jig and Bobber right there where it makes the bend at NW & Colwell blvd.I just have to figure out where to park without running foul with the local law guys.

I have never fished Hackberry Creak down by colwell, but upstream by Royal I have had decent luck at times. My best bass out of that part was 4-5lbs, but others have said bigger are in there.

Man that is really Kool MtnDew although I`m not much of a bass guy ,your remarks are duely noted. WTG on that 4lb. bass Rudy & you are right about the picture not doing it justice. It seems like they always look a little smaller lying on the bank.

Pulled this out of Northlake today. There was one other guy there on the other side, wasn't sure if it was any of you guys or not.

Nice, I was there Saturday and got skunked. The wind was howling and I only stayed a few hours.

What type of lure/presentation worked for you ?

I fish there a ton. About the only lure I use is a chatterbait. I've never been skunked using it. Also spinnerbaits with luck. In the cold I used weightless flukes that worked well. But lure of choice is chatterbait.

Thanks Hotrod,

I own 2 chatter baits a white one and a blue one, but never got the hang of them. I may have to take just those two baits and spend the day there, until I figure out how to use them.

My goto lure on that lake has been a strike king red eye lipless crankbait, blue chrome.. In the past it never failed me until last Saturday. I even tried slowing things down with a wacky worm, but just no luck.

-thanks again for the info.

Got one last night around 6:45 that was in the 4.5 -5 lb. range, across from The Cellar, near Smith Landing. Very healthy specimen, fat belly starting to swell female. She is still there.

I'm surprised you're able to use a crankbait without it hitting the bottom and digging up tons of weeds. I've tried using them but where I'm most successful, it isn't very deep and they just drag the bottom and end up reeling in 10 pounds worth of weeds!

Nothing to using chatterbaits, I literally just cast and reel it in at a steady pace without stopping and fast enough to keep it from dragging the bottom. I use an all yellow chatterbait, but have had success with the white/yellow, and I've even used a red/white one and caught fish with it. Yellow seems to be the color that works for me even on the spinnerbaits. Also, if you fish late in the evening once the water going real calm, throw a white buzzbait (at least once it warms up a bit). Early morning, and late evening are the best. You'll fish all afternoon with nothing but then go around 5:00-5:15 and fish till dark and you'll be pulling them in.

maybe I'll see you out there sometime.
