It sure looked like Crappie, but they had Lock Jaw.

Dutch, I know you are going to think I am nuts or I am telling you a fish tail.

This is what I have found (besides crappie are crazy) to be true on special days. You have to find that magic depth, regardless of what end or side of the lake you are fishing. It seems that the magic depth will produce at each place, wherever you are at on the lake. Yesterday it was 18 foot down + or – 1 inch! (By the way I count out line to my 1st eye on rod, it may have been 17' 9"). I am sure confidence plays a big roll in it also, besides that is the only depth I fished basically, once I figured them out. Well that’s my story anyhow.

I think they may be some proof in that Fish Tail I just told you, by looking at the screen shots you posted, fish seemed to be thickest around that 18 foot depth. I am sure you fished that 18 foot depth but, wonder if 6” higher or 6” lower would have made a difference?????????

The good news is you found some fish, by next Wednesday they will be on fire and limits will be a breeze again.

Personally, I like those kinds of days because that's the point where "I think" I'm learning something. One trick I learned this summer was from a bass fisherman of all people. He turned me on to some stuff called slabslobber. Believe it or not, he buys 6 at a time and puts it in a small plastic tupperware sealable bowl and dips his whole bait in it. He's a serious tournament guy. Now, more than once I've seen the fish on the DI, spray on some juice, and catch a few. Its not the difference between catching zero and catching 50, but I think the extra shad stink adds a couple fish to the creel. I've never had any faith in attractants other than they might make a fish hold the bait for a split second longer, but I would bet slabslobber works.
