NiceCatch, my Dad and I won that tourney. I do a little write up after each trip and I'll share what we did:
10-25-14 Air 70-90 Wind fron S @ 5 Water 70-75 I fished a team club tournament with Dad and we launched at Isle Du Bois. We his a pocket that I prefished and landed a 4lbr on a frog, but the fish didn't want a frog (or a buzzbait) today. We stayed around there for most of the day. It was @ 1 before we even had a keeper in the boat. Dad did pretty good today. He ended up catching 3/4 of the ones that we weighed in. The water was pretty clear because of all the grass/hydrilla that was in the area. I tried to fish brush piles from 6-22' without any bites. The fish were not on the standing timber either. The only real pattern that we had was to fish near the grass, and just to the outside. The color of the day was Zoom greenie weenie. I ran to where the original launch was (Jordan) and got there 15 minutes until last cast, so we fished the big point out in front. On my first cast, I have a big fish on and when it surfaced, it spit my hook. It was @ 5-7lbs and made me sick because I figured that I had just given away 1st place. We ended up winning with @ 6 and it was a tough day for everyone. One other thing, the fish were active in the grass later in the day. I couldn't get them to grab my frog, but they were blowing up on something in the middle of the grass.
you know, nothing wrong with seven men who met on the internet going for a swim together

I hear a lot about Ray Roberts being tough. I know it has good days and bad days, but I still think it is one of my favorite lakes in DFW area. Someone said that they caught a 20 pound sack off one small spot and that's the best advice I have for Roberts. It fishes tight. If you find a good fish, it usually has a bunch more with it. I have caught numerous 20+ sacks on Roberts and most of them come in less than a 50 yard stretch whether its on the bank or off shore, they tend to gang up in small areas. I don't know why, because there is plenty of structure in the lake for them to roam, but If I find a good area ill milk it all day. It only takes 10 minutes for them to turn on out there and go from 10 pounds to 30 pounds. Just my experience out there. I had a 10 pound limit last year at 1:00 and by 1:30 had over 23 pounds. Timing can be the real ticket as well sometimes.

Shad are following the plankton which they feed on, to the back of feeder creeks. Bass follow shad and gorge them selves. Your gonna get scratches on your boat if you have a winning sack. The rest of the guys will be fishing the points, having a hard time getting bit. Feeding up for winter putting on weight, forming eggs it's autumn ( think) Catch and release, they learn to go where we wont. I believe there is some huge mamas in Roberts. I'am looking for BASSCONG !! Get in the Jungle....

Congrats Bogey and thanks for sharing. We did catch some small fish and a school of fish was hitting topwater, just as we had to leave for the weigh-in. If we had another 30 minutes, we may have had a limit - MAYBE.
Our one keeper was caught back in the creek and YES we got the boat scratched and even had to rock the boat to get out of trees and low water.
Mike doesn't have downscan on his boat, but I have a HDS touch and I plan on scouting the areas and taking a few pictures of structure. Should be a fun vacation!!

I have yet to put together a pattern on RR this year, seems like I find a few today and they are gone tomorrow. The only thing I can say for sure is if I was fishing today I would be in the grass and back in the creeks donating lures.
I am not making any decisions until the bourbon kicks in!

Only pattern I ever figure out on Ray roberts is to fish something different than I am and a different area of the lake. I zero more out there than any place I have ever fished.

My dad and I fished RR a lot in the mid/late 90s and early 2000s. Seems you couldn't go out on that lake with an electric blue or fire & ice culprit worm without putting a few keepers in the boat. I've been fishing Fork for 4 years now and my two personal best fish are still from RR in the late 90s. Sounds like a different lake now.
