Entirely agree, it's all about finding a spot you want to fish, where you find fish or believe fish are, fishable cover and structure, and just cover it thoroughly. Unless you are very keyed in on pattern i.e. wind blown secondary points along creek channel, and you can rapidly cover and hop along those specific spots, you are likely better off just covering a given small territory with a variety of structure/cover very thoroughly to find the better fish in that area.

Always enjoy your videos, great topic again. Tight lines!

I grew up fishing an aluminum bass boat my dad and I built.... 25 HP pull start Evinrude that was finicky as heck (called her blue bit$&)....so I fished my spots thoroughly.... Worked every inch....drug a t rig electric blue Mr. Twister through every ounce of my lake......I fished out of that boat from 13 years old until I was 22 years old and bought a better boat.....those days made me better than I'd have been if running and gunning was an option.

Everyone is different in tournament fishing. It's all about what works for you. You don't have to catch the largest sack that lake can produce rather than just catching 5 fish that weighs more than everyone else. What works for you as an individual is what you need to capitalize on. (My 2)

I did more runnin and gunnin this year then any year in the past. So much so that my club members thought I was struggling out there but it was just the opposite. I had best year ever winning angler of the year and club championship so it sure paid off for me

KVD is the running and gunning king. One of the most successful anglers ever, and he will only fish a spot for 5 minutes. If that spot doesn't hold fish he moves on. I have seen and heard of many people following him that are amazed at how fast he fishes, so R & G must work if you are good at it.

I did pretty much the same thing when I was young. When I got my first "bass boat" that was new to me, I ran all over the lake and fished everywhere. My catch rate suffered badly, enough that I was frustrated beyond words. My wife actually pointed out that I had burned a ton of fuel and fished very little. Took about 6 months to figure out that she was right.
I've learned that there are times to sit and times to R&G. For me, it depends on the lake, time of year and knowledge of the lake.

Run and gun over grind for me unless I think one or two spots are the key and it's a key time bite.

I can't count the number of times I get behind somebody in a 60k rig flying down a bank to this day....don't see them catch a thing....I methodically work the same water and catch 5 or a big fish.....since those teen years..... It's happened too many times.....still makes me laugh too!

A lot of things factor into this decision. I like to cover water when I am on a new lake or even a lake I know but have not been to in awhile. A lot of times you just have to let the fish answer that question. I prefer to run and gun high percentage areas and hopefully get enough bites to put together some type of pattern. After I have done this I prefer to grind it out where I am getting my better fish or if I am tournament fishing I try to find some things that are not so obvious then utilize everything based on fishing pressure, time of year etc. One example would be if you find an area that is somewhat of a community area and you draw out early in a tournament you will want to fish it first then hit your less obvious areas later if needed, assuming you have established some type of pattern. If your running and gunning but one of your stops gives up a few good fish I would say grind it out. Like I said a lot of things factor into this but one thing for sure is nothing beats time on the water.

I have heard that over and over again, and man, it takes patience and literally WORK to slow down. S-L-O-W D-O-W-N fishing style, presentation and try different offerings.

Your video was/is spot on.

On the other hand, NOW your going to have to control that 'get to another spot' urges along with the rest of us now that you have an engine! frkazoid
Nice video....glad you got the engine .... keep 'grindin out the videos' ...really enjoy them
