I got home from work early enough today that I decided to get out for a few hours. I was on the water just before 2:00 this afternoon. Cedar Creek is now 5 feet 5 inches low. Water temp was 74 degrees where I was. There were light winds today. It was truly a beautiful afternoon to be on the water.

On the first couple of spots I tried, I caught one black bass, one white bass, and one yellow bass. At 3:15, I still hadn't caught a single crappie. But that's when I found them. By the time I quit at 6:15, I had caught 27 keepers. It was my first limit since the spring.

The fish ran larger than most I've been catching lately, too. There were several really nice crappie, bigger than anything I've caught since the spring. They were 11 to 12 feet deep, on concrete. All were caught on a Shaddaboy Thump Chubbie on a 1/8 oz jig.

The first 19 I caught (as well as the last 10 fish or so that I caught last week), were all caught on the same Thump Chubbie. I hook them on the side with the ridges, like Lane recommends, but I found that when they get too beat up to stay on the hook that way, you can hook them with the ridges down, and they still work fine. Finally, after 19 of today's nice fish, I retired both the jig and the Thump Chubbie, and tied on new ones.

At this time last year, I was still unpacking from my move to Gun Barrel City, so this is really my first fall of really having much time to fish the lake. I think I'm liking living here in the fall. All fish were released today.

I will be on CC on Tuesday with my Jon boat and trolling motor. I will be putting in from a private ramp on the west shore, and I would very much appreciate any advice on where I might have some luck finding some crappie.
