I have Family out there that have a nice lake place off Airport rd on the North end. They Like Crappie but they do more hunting than fishing. Especially with the extremely low Lake Level. I am curious if there are any crappie to be caught? Im thinking the river channel on the north end and also Docks on the deeper south end. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Only crappie I have seen caught in that lake were some magnums in hog bend and bluff creek around the timber.

I was at the state park last weekend with a canoe and no electronics. I jigged lots of trees with no success.

You're better off chasing sandbass! I was there this last summer, and fished for three days and didn't catch a single crappie. The sandbass were on fire though!
I've heard that lighted docks, or lights at night are the only way to catch crappie on that lake. We used to catch boat loads of crappie up cedar creek as a kid, but you can't get back there anymore with the low lake level.

what kind of water clarity does it have ? Usually it's pretty clear unless you head towards the west side of the lake. Even then it's just kind of stained.

My experience has been PK is one tough lake for catching crappie. Tried them last Sunday with no luck...again. The wind was up and the water was stained with a lot of foam being created by the wave action. Made me wonder if the lake is turning over. Problem is you can see a really clear thermal line at 33 ft on a depth finder.

Have you tried shooting the deeper docks on the south end?

This thread forced me to try crappie again last weekend. Hit the trees up in Caddo creek and only caught one keeper crappie and a couple dinks. Was fishing minnows. Got into the channel cats and had a blast. They sure are fun on light tackle. Heading out again first thing tomorrow. Yes, I am taking this personally now. My wife and I are on an official "PK Crappie Quest", and if we get into the kitty's again... that's OK. Oh and Horton5303, we will be trying the docks on the South end per your suggestion. I had a local suggest the same thing when we were chatting at the ramp. One other thing to note. We caught numerous 4 to 5 inch stripers. I think Texoma may not be the only lake around here the stripers are spawning in.

I hope you do well. I would love to see that the fishery is making a comeback. The places i mentioned are really more of a summer pattern. Main lake deep structure will be where you want to focus in the coming months. What is the water temp out there right now?

I did well on the occasions I fished there in the 80's.
I haven't fished there since my return to DFW so have no idea of current conditions, other than knowing the water is way low.

The lake surface temp is still warm, 72 degrees, and the wake boarders are still out. We tried flipping docks with minnows with no luck. Ran back up into the timber, no crappies and only one cat but a good one. Man reeling those things up through a tree in 25' of water is Game On! Our early luck was our own fault as we did not get on the water until late morning due to a family birthday party. At 4 PM we decided to try the sandys and stripers. Luck changed. Dropped the Terrova and put her on speed 1 to 3 depending on how the wind was blowing us around. In 37' of water dangling large shiners off 4 poles at 20'. Only kept 3 stripers and 6 sandys but they were all good ones. Numerous fish released, lost count. Had a big one hit on a spinning outfit and my wife grabbed the pole, imagine that... After I convinced her that getting hung up in a tree generally doesn't pull drag unless the boat is moving away from the "hang up" she got serious. At this time I'm having more fun than should be allowed. That fish owned the wrestling match for a good while and I was getting concerned it was going to strip all the line off the spinning reel when she started to get tired; the fish not my wife. I netting the 15 lb fish and am looking forward to some grilled striper tomorrow.
The PK Crappie Quest is still on and I would appreciate any knowledge you serious crappie folks feel like sharing on Fall and Winter crappie patterns.
