Two weeks ago, I kicked two new Okuma rods with BB1 reels overboard. I am not as "graceful" as I once was. So this morning, I spent some time with a scuba diver, and managed to find both rods. I got to thinking about it and these aren't the only two I've ever kicked overboard, I was wondering if anyone else has ever lost anything "over the side" Thank God it was good old clear Possum Kingdom and only ten ft of water!

Yep but luckily cheap glass blown out. I am pretty careful about putting things where they can't get knocked out because I can't afford to replace them. I did almost lose my tackle box in some rough water though

Glad you got yours back!
Oh yes, I certainly have! 2 pairs of costas, 1 pair of ray-bans and a spinning reel. All in separate instances. One was not my fault at all. Was fishing Fork several years ago with a buddy. I had a rod laid up against the console and he was fishing from the back of the boat. He reared back for a bomb of a cast and hooked the end of my rod. I had no clue what had happened and my rod ended up 40 yards from the boat on the bottom of Fork...was not retrieved. Ridiculous!
Fork also took a pair of costas when I threw a fit over missing a 5lbr on a frog. Bass blew it up in the pads and I had him hooked. Unfortunately, he came off right at the boat. That's when I threw my rage fit and spun around nearly throwing myself from the boat. My costas on the other hand, successfully managed to fly from my face and right into Fork.
I've paid my dues, it's about time Fork pays me back!

Bragged about how long I'd had my Costa's and how good they were, then the next day I let them blow out of my boat. Getting older sucks! I'm losing something or tearing something up almost daily now.

Funny you should post this-lost a spinning rod and reel on Texoma today. Was trying to tie a new lure on and the rod slipped and went overboard. Not a real expensive set-up but still hurt to watch it sink out of sight.

2 All-star "Tom Mann" carolina rigs, one on Toledo the other on Richland Chambers. An All-star WR1 on Conroe and an All-star shrimptail special 35 miles offshore. And one pair of Oakley polarized "straight jackets".
I was lucky enough to recover three rods that hit the water.
also lost a cell phone on Canyon lake, watched it as it disappeared into the depths, almost like loosing a friend.

I've lost a few rods and a chronarch or two. Life in the fast lane. Nothing worse than hitting a wave and seeing a rod with a chronarch rise up and slowly arc over the side before hitting the water and then disappearing in a splash faster than the body can react.

Yep a 3 foot pink Barbie zebco combo. Tried like heck to blow it off until I looked into the tear whelped eyes of a four year old daughter. Got out the jigging spoon and dragged the area for a couple of hours, when I drug it out of the lake it was like Santa had came again.

I lost a ding in anchor spike last Sunday with nothing good on board to try and get it with... 10ft smooth glass pole, hard to grab. Got to start at it standing straight up out the lake bed though, pretty cool looking on the DI taking up 1 pixel standing on end haha. I know where it is and I'll be back with something clever sometime soon to fetch it.
Also lost one of my Abu rigs overboard after my best day of fishing ever on Lewisville, and was so happy form the awesome day I was like whelp, even if I lost it still best day on water here ever... then proceeded to catch it dredging with 1oz of weight and a bare treble hook to finish off the most amazing day ever.

Well half of the cash was my partners. by the time we realized it, we turned around and were able to net about 80 dollars... the rest is buying meth at the local bar im sure.
Now that I re-read this, im not all that careful.

Almost lost the key to my boat in a tournament. Co angler hooked it right out of the ignition switch on the back of a cast and sent it flying into the horizon. Luckily it had one those buoy key chains on it and I eventually found it.
Other than that a side cover from a Revo and a pair of costas.

At my last stop last weekend after a terrible tournament I lost my oldest Curado on a old 7'medium pole that I used for small crankbaits. It was sad watching it go over.

Had a few things 'blow overboard' and I didn't know it until my next fishing spot. Small bag of worms/baits and one fairly nice rod and reel leuger) and ? can't remember the bait on EM. I learned a lesson and trying not to forget that one. TIE EVERYTHING DOWN BEFORE GETTING UNDERWAY!! Ya'll making me feel a lot better, I thought this was surely just something that happened to a new/novice boater/fisherman !! Man, I wonder how much 'stuff' is at the bottom of our lakes...makes you wonder (Pf

Back in the 90's a buddy came fishn with me and he left his two sided Plano crank bait box on the back deck after tying on a bait, we then left for a long run up lake.....we got to where we were going and were fishn and he said have you seen my crank bait box ?....we back tracked and never found it...one side was regular plastic cranks and the other was original Bagley's !!! Over 60 irreplaceable baits lost to the bottom of the lake...

Many years ago I was fishing a pro am on Toledo Bend, a blue norther blew in and it was below freezing and we had sleet, I went and bought me a full face motorcycle helmet for about 150 bucks so I could run the lake without freezing to death, after the first stop I had set it behind drivers seat, well I forgot about it when we went to the next spot, it is somewhere on the bottom of the lake now.

Plenty of stuff. Most embarrassing was a month ago on Roberts--shoes and socks got wet putting in the boat by myself. Took them off and laid them in front of the console on the deck to dry off. Forgot and went on plane--shoes and socks flew by me and into the water. Shoes floated so circled back and picked them up--lost the socks.

My buddy had a history of screwing things up. He had his keys in his windbreaker pocket...it warmed up and he took off with the windbreaker laying it on seat back. On our next move he just forgot an leaned up a little and we never saw it blow out. I watched this same guy with his bait thrown out just lay his rood down to get a smoke...it was hilarious to watch that rod being pulled under and away in that clear water. Then there was the time on Choke when he got out of his truck on that steep ramp...the truck door slammed shut and he was locked out.

I've lost a few pairs of cheap sunglasses running down the lake. That all changed when I bought my costas and wear the cables. I have also lost a few bags of plastics and the occasional hat. Nothing major like rods or anything! I think i would go into cardiac arrest!

That I remember- My favorite rod, a cheap pair of sunglasses, A storage sack for my mp3 player, several hats (but always got them back), a whataburger cup (sorry, I would have went back but I didn't know it blew out), and several other small pieces of trash (again, I'm sorry, but as a former Boy Scout, I always try to leave the lake with more trash than I brought in).

Anything left in front of the windshield. All i see or hear is a flash as it flys by my head. Mostly the only color and the last bag they will bite, all kinds of spray stuff. And one combo.

An almost new spinning reel and rod combo worth about $150 - never knew when I kicked it overboard. And a new life vest that blew out of the boat but didn't know when.
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Wow! 50% of the posts could have been avoided if they were wearing Amphibia. Just saying I wear Amphibias (after losing several pairs of Costas), and I managed to lose a pair of Amphibias as well. They do float as advertised, but They were knocked off of my head as I dove into the Guadalupe river to save a dad that was drowning while trying to save his drowning son. I got both of them out of the river and they were just fine afterwards, but in doing so, I happened to see those Amphibias float right past me in the current. Couldn't exactly let go of those guys to grab a pair of shades. Bought another pair, and haven't been able to lose them yet.
Team wolfs I had to perform. It took a minute to get it all in my mouth and another five to swallow it all.

One time I put my rods on the deck with the reels aft and not at the bow. Cutting across Conroe at 60mph in some pretty good chop my brand new American Rodsmith with a brand new Lews on it worked it's way back past the console. Once the reel cleared the console it stood straight up like a flagpole and with catlike reflexes I extended my right hand out and caught that sucker before it made it's way to the bottom of the lake. Oh, I once tied on a lure and cut the tag with my clippers and threw the clippers over the side instead of the tag.

Running south on Rayburn my wife says "the livewell lid is opening", I turn my head to look back and my prescription glasses catch air and fly right out of the back of the boat!!! Needless to say the livewell lid was loose but not opening; fished half blind the rest of the weekend!

Couple rods over the years, one was a boat rod while trolling for white bass. Got hung on a rock and pulled out of my then girlfriends hands. She didn't know how to tell me so she just didnt. Lol she's an ex now. Lost a couple anchors, mostly offshore. Lost a 357 magnum, recovered that one once, a brand new galaxy s3, tackle box sank with a pontoon boat on Livingston when I was younger. Etc etc...

WOW !! Sure, I have lost two things by my own carelessness but, I have learned to TIE EVERYTHING DOWN and check if all is secure BEFORE moving on. Been lucky I guess, haven't lost nearly so much as some on here have. Seems my loss lesson was fairly inexpensive, compared to some here. I can't/won't dive 31' for anything! Glad some of ya'll have gotten your things back Worm bag (w/baits) and 1 rod/reel combo are pretty inexpensive lesson .... I WON'T FORGET!!

My boss fished the Basscat Owner's Tournament on Rayburn with me last year and left his tackle bag on the back deck at blastoff. Lost it somewhere between Casell Boykins Ramp and the 147 bridge. 25 years worth of a tackle collection sits somewhere on the bottom of Rayburn.

I had a brand new crank bait rod/reel somehow slip out of the bungee and fly off the deck about 50 mph yesterday on Conroe. I didn't see it, just heard something strange. I was amazed how stoic I was in the face of loosing a couple hundred bucks so quickly. I was 100% certain it was on the bottom of the lake. I have no clue why but I turned around and putted back over my path and sure enough the rod was floating just under the surface. I think the cork handle, glass rod, and large crankbait I had tied on provided just enough buoyancy to keep it afloat for a couple of minutes anyway. Rod handles toward the bow! Lesson learned.

I fished a tournament about 5 years ago. As I arrived to my first spot, I quickly jumped up to take my life jacket off. My kill switch cord some how wrapped around my boat keys and as I jumped up, the kill switch cord yanked out the keys and bungeed them about 50 feet into the water. Those particular keys did not have a floaty key chain

I got lucky the other day. I was fishing in a pond in my kayak, and got too close to some low hanging trees along the shore line. I had a milk crate with PVC tubes in the back of the yak and three rods were standing up in. When I got up against the trees, it tipped the milk crate and one rod and reel went in. It was a Skeet Reese swimbait rod with a Lew's reel on it. Even though the rod was yellow and the water not real deep, I could not see it. I moved back about 10 feet from where I thought it went in and started casting with a rattletrap lure and after about 8-10 casts, I managed to snag it with one of the treble hooks on the lure. Thank you Lord!! Jim

A couple of pairs of sunglasses (luckly cheap ones), a green Curado 200 on a brand new cranking rod (luckly a cheaper BPS rod), two pairs of cheap reading glasses (one last weekend), a 25 inch golden rule. I was running down Fork forgot it up front almost reached up to grab it as it flew off but though better of it. I'll bet at volicity that thing could amputate fingers. A couple of hats and a winter beanie type hat.
That's about it so far.

Ya'll sure make me glad by rig will only go some 40mph on the water and NOT 70! Lord I hate to think what all would be blown out or over the side........ Know it's NOT funny to lose anything but, that's the first thing came to mind.

My gosh, this is a clumsy bunch of folks! By the way, if anyone is fishing the reed patches on the lower end of lake Cooper and hooks two more rod and reels, they're mine. That was my first trip in new boat. I saw one go over the side to my right and when I stretched out to get it, I kicked off one rod and reel on the left side of casting platform. Fishing and sex both make me realize how old I'm getting!

Take it from a guy who has a long history and a small but well stocked tackle store laying in various parts of Lake Fork. If you say "Donating it to the fish Gods" it doesn't hurt near as bad as saying "I kicked a 400.00 rod and reel off into the lake"

Going home from a private lake last fall, probably 9 or 10 at night.
Best friend lost a rod bag out of the back of the truck going 80mph on I-30.
5 GLoomis IMX Rods with 5 core 50 MG's. Pretty painful day.
