Thinking of heading that way this weekend to see if I can't catch some smallmouth. Anyone been there recently?

I don't know much, but I will share what I think I do know.
It's an extremely clear lake, with massive depth changes. I have seen it go from 7-8 feet, to over 100 feet in very short distances, and then back way up again. Very different than say a regular East Texas lake in those aspects.
As for the fishing, there are a ton of Small Mouth. I have had success in the fall throwing lipless red crankbaits around island rocks in the past.
Full disclosure - I have only been on the lake twice, and both times were in the fall. I am a recreational bass fisherman. Not a pro by any means.

Run shallow with Top water, traps, and shallow cranks. It will produce a lot of smallies right now. Most will be 10-14 inches.
Move a little deeper on points with drop shots, shakeyhead, finesse jigs and tubes.
Lake is fishing good right now. I'm on it once a week.

I been once and they key seemed to be a rattle trap. Ive tried the banks, crank baits, drop shots, senkos, weightless. none worked on small mouth. If you have a gopro or a waterproof camera you will need to take it. pretty cool lake for underwater videos if you like that kinda stuff.
