Saturday I fished Fayette County with John, from near Hamilton, his son Carson, and nephew Cody. They were at a family reunion, and were having a family fishing tourney. Carson managed to get big fish of the day with 6.88#, but they would not give him big fish money because he was 9 years old. John managed to that that prize home with a 5.89# cat. They won the over all total of five fish, with 27# Beautiful day on the water, but a long day. Lake is about one foot below normal. They started at 8 am, took a break at 11 am, then we started again at 2 pm. stopping at 5 pm. This put me getting home and getting my boat ready for the next morning a few minutes before dark...too long a day, wont do that kind of trip again. They had 16 cats in the morning and 6 more in the evening. All caught on CJ's Crawdad punch bait, under corks, in 5-8 foot water. Today, 10/19, I had Jerry, from Tomball, and his two daughters Mandy and Megan, from Austin out for some family fun on Lake Somerville. The morning was beautiful and everyone enjoyed the outdoors, watching the eagle, the ducks, and other birds, as well as the sunrise. Megan showed the rest of the family how to catch fish, even if she traded places with her sister, the fish followed her, LOL. We have all been there. They ended the morning with 35 cats for the cleaning table, largest going 3#. All fish caught on CJ's Crawdad punch bait, under corks, in 4-5 foot water.

Great pics. I have a question since I was totally skunked on cats Saturday. When you say 4-5 foot of water under a cork how deep are you actually fishing, in other words how far off the bottom?
My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

I like to set my cork so the bait is only an inch or two off the bottom if possible, but up to a foot is good too.

We fished 5 different places on Saturday, light NE winds, beautiful day. Nothing on 4 but on #5 we caught 20, 10 of which were 4# or larger. Best day of my life :-)I love winter fishing on Lake Somerville!
