I started the day out in the boat with Ken Gaby & Max Jordan. They had been out the morning before and said the bite was slow. I should have taken them for their word
I showed them some spots that had produced good for me in the summer and although we caught a few fish, the areas were almost completely void of fish when watching the graph. We then went to a couple of spots that I had caught the fish staging for the fall migration. Although we marked a few fish, they were not "Lit Up" on the graph like they were the week before
I was thinking that those fish must have moved a little farther in towards shallower water, but I need to get out and graph some more before I can say for sure
OK, let me back up a bit........The new Blue/Glo-treuse color was a mistake. I was attempting to match a color for Ken verbally - doesn't work
The blue was way too dark and the Glo-Treuse tail needed to have a shade of fluorescent green chart added.
But I had such good results with the "Mistake", that I had added it to Belinda's line-up.
Ken gave the actual hand-tie jig he wanted duplicated and I mixed up the new "E Tex Killer", which I gave him some samples and kept some for myself to use. Yesterday's fishing trips was to test this color out
Ok now back to fishing
Ken and I were using the new color, while Max was picking some fish up using the "Go-To Greenie". Only problem was, we just did not find a concentration of fish.
I had plans to fish with David from Shut-Up-And-Fish, but he had to take care of some orders and was late leaving the city. We did more running around than actual fishing, but did catch some quality fish in the process. I got a text from David saying he was about 1/2 of the way here, so Ken and Max dropped me off to get my boat ready and they headed out to find some fish
Find them they did, in 18' of water on a laydown.
Here's Max with a quality fish he caught on a green/white Little rascal
Ken told me that evening that they ended up with 18 quality fish and that the new color had accounted for the most of them
The largest 2 were 1.69#'s and 1.61#'s
Once David and I got on the water, we headed in the opposite direction than what we'd fished in the morning.
Started out in 12 fow and David was the 1st to set the hook and swing a fish aboard. He was using another new color that I'd mixed up for a custom order, but hadn't fished myself yet - Grape/Banana
We hit some of the other areas that I'd found fish on my last solo excursion, but the fish had moved elsewhere for the most part
We caught a few nice fish and some shorts in the same spot that I'd finished up on last week, but the fishing was slow.
We ran to another spot in 18 fow and finally got into some quality fish
The wind laid down and the water was flat
But if you kept your bait moving very slowly, you'd get "THUMPED"!
The new "E Tex Killer" This color pattern has worked well for Ken all over the state
Slowly, but surely, from 12 down to 18 fow, we put some "Quality" fish in the box
4 times I got "Thumped", set the hook and the fish would bury up in the bp. I give them a little line and they'd pull it down, but even with giving slack line and jigging, I couldn't get the fish free
Once the bite slowed there, we ran to the "SLOB Tree" and caught a couple more bigguns
The fish again were slow to bite, but once they committed, they inhaled the bait
We were both using light jigs, David a 1/16 for the most part and myself a 1/32. The pattern was to again,
slowly lift your bait and let it fall back down. Some of the bites were on the lift, others on the fall, but it had to be moving.
Although we did not get limits, we both agreed the day was a
SUCCESS It's not every day that most of the fish you boat are over 1.25#'s. The only fish I weighed was 1.53 and we both caught larger fish.
Not only is David the best source for your boating equipment needs, he's a pleasure to spend time on the water with
Mr. Ronnie "Hurt'em" Roberts is supposed to be here Sunday, I just hope I can put him on the same quality fish
Note: Notice the new "Mojo" enriched Shut Up And Fish cap I'm sporting
