I live in DFW and I just bought a 2006 ZX225 with a Yamaha 225 the upper mount is bad and has considerable play. Who do you recommend to do the repair and do a general health check. I have the motor printout and the compression is all good just need to repair the mount and do a good once over on everything before I get her on the water for more than the lake test.

I just went through this with a ZX202 and Yamaha 200. A buddy of mine kept telling me to go through everything before getting it out, and I did a once over and glad I did. I would fix the problem you found plus: change the lower unit oil, replace the fuel filter, change the plugs, replace the impeller, clean the battery terminals, and check everything in detail from bow to stern for anything you may have missed. When I changed the lower unit oil, I found that I had a water problem. That lead me to find a slight bend in the prop shaft that I missed and fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft. Replaced the impeller, prop shaft and all seals, and she has been fine so far.

You do realize the powerhead has to come off to replace those upper mounts? http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha...%202/parts.html

Thanks Joe! I have the recent service records, but you mentioned a couple of things I would not have looked for.

I replaced my mounts a couple of weeks ago. It's not difficult at all. (I have an engine hoist). The tough part is getting the power head lined up when sitting it back down. Let me know if you want more details

I forgot to add that if you plan on replacing your mounts, you could save money by purchasing solid mounts from Hydrotech. The set of four mounts cost less than the single pair of OEM mounts. Everyone says that the solid mounts helps your steering and performance. I haven't had enough time on the water to tell the difference. You will also need the exhaust gasket under the powerhead, and the proper Loctite.

You basically remove the lower unit, remove the aluminum trim under the lower cowling, and all of the power head bolts are revealed. Before removing those bolts, you have to disconnect the tilt/trim switch wiring, positive and negative battery wire, shift and throttle cables, fuel and oil hoses (all of this is easy work).

You connect the engine hoist to the lifting ring, remove all bolts (10-12) and shake the power head a little, and it comes right off. After this, there is a plate that holds the top mounts down. (3 bolts) remove, and you have access to get the top mounts off.
Seriously, if you need help with it, let me know. I can't help with the work, since I just had surgery, but I have the factory manual and all of the tools.

Save yourself some money.

Great info! How long did it take you to complete the work? What did the parts cost for everything that was needed? I will PM you with my e-mail for more info.
