This lake has always puzzled me. I have fished it several times over the last 15 years. I have always been able to find small keeper fish but never have i been able to find the big ones. I seen the weights for Bass Champs and it just makes me sick that i have never been able to find that kind of fish. I dont want to know your spots but any information would help? Deep or shallow. what part of the lake? Do you fish ledges? Open water?

Our club fished it twice and will fish it again in two weeks. Our biggest is 6+ and we will find the big ones as time goes on. Practice, practice, practice. I don't have a pattern......yet.

There are some giants in lbj. During state I had 2 8 pounders and my partner had a 5. During practice he caught an 11+. We fish deep and shallow. And congrats to my bud Mr. Ramsey on the champs win!

I used to pre fish with a BC winner. Believe me, he puts in his homework prepping his spots and practicing. I got on a school of 3 pounders ONCE, and thought I was hot chit. Typically though, its one pounders or smaller for me. To get big ones, you gotta leave the surefire dock bite and sacrifice numbers for size.

I bet your 11lber came out of shallow water. I have only been fishing there since Dec of 2012 but everyone I seem to talk to has said you have to be fishing shallow no matter the time of year to catch those big bags. So far I have not been able to locate bigger fish offshore. My better fish have come shallow, I have caught some deeper but not good quality.

Allot of big fish shallow for sure. Does have some good deep stuff. Last time I was there the grass was growing great south end area. It has it's fare share of brush piles ledges and rocks though u can find them deep for sure. But shallow bit is always consistent

I have always fished shallow and docks. Other than a few decent sized fish 3-5lbs it has been mostly small keepers. Just that the better fish have been few and far between. I was just wondering if i was doing something wrong to catch the better fish, thought i would ask. Thanks for the information given. One thing I have is patience so it sounds like just keeping the bait in the water is the secret for this lake.

If i remember correctly his fish came out of 14 feet or so, and it definitely came on a 1/2 oz football head jig.

My brother caught a 9-2 a few months back and yes, out of the shallows.

Not during Spring either.....

Those large mats of Eurasian milfoil hold some big fish, even in shallow water.

Throw Senkos around the mats but don't be scared to get nasty in the salad.
