have anyone got lucky with sabiki on Ladyfish? Love the fishball. Does anyone know the best time for this fish in Galveston/Freeport? I had too much fun with them last year (very busy this year ) I found this one on ebay but is this size good enough? sabiki

Can't say I ever caught a ladyfish on a Sabiki, although I don't see why not.
I haven't had very good luck with the shrimp imitation lines like those, usually have better luck with the ones that have the mylar on them to make them look like little bugs or something like that. I also usually tip them with a very small piece of shrimp which increases the hookup ratio.
I generally use the smallest ones I can find, I just like the range of bait it brings in, but that might have an effect on what I catch also.

It's a mess when you get more than one. They do work for lady fish. Get the largest hook size that you can. They have stronger leaders.

Makes a terrible mess of the rig and breaks off hooks very easy. You can catch them with these but you pay the price.

A small spoon used for white bass works well

It's a royal pain in the arse. They destroy the rig. If skippies are slashing, don't put your sabiki in the water!

Ya know it isn't hard to make your own Sabiki Rig, just a few knots and the size hook you want to put on it.
I make my own with 1/0 hooks once in a while for larger croaker, add some shrimp and you are good to go.
I don't even do any fancy knots, just a double overhand loop knot every 6 or 8 inches or so.

Tie on a small spoon and on the hook of the spoon a foot or two of 10# leader. Then tie on a clouser minnow fly chartreuse/white. Rip it through them fast and you should get bit.

I have caught thousands of yellowtails on sabikis. Is there any use for this fake croaker? When I chuck one out there, it just seems to sit or catch stingrays.
