Cool congratulations on a great catch... I've only caught 2 Big Eye Tuna in 45 years of offshore fishing. cheers Did you catch it on artificial or natural bait?

I didn't catch this fish was the guy next to me fishing a electric reel deep jigging.. If it was a conventional reel would of beat the state record by 120lbs.. He was deep dropping a green and silver 10-12oz diamond jig to 400-600ft. We got a yellow and blackfin tunas.. All bigeyes were caught deep jigging.

Awesome! I've always heard 300-400 was the magic depth. That's a big arse tuna!

HAHA i fished next to that guy a couple of times on the 30hr trip. Its funny he caught it on the electric reel because people always tease him about it but he does have that reel setup very well and a nice guy to fish next too.

I've caught one bigeye in my life, and the funny thing was that the boat crew insisted it was a yellowfin. At the time I didn't know any better, but I had some good photos of the fish & got it ID'ed later on.

Same story, was jigging @ 400ft deep

Very nice catch!

Very few people electric reel fishing for tuna in the US and it can be incredibly effective.
