So what would be a good source for barometric pressure? I would like to add this information and knowledge to increase my chances of getting the hook up a good app i use on my iphone is, daily temperature and more, its a pic of a little sun with sunglasses on, it tells you barometric pressure, sunrise/sunset, wind direction, and wind speed. along with temp, wind chill, what the pressure is doing(ie. rising/falling) and the conditions(fair/rainy/sunny). i really like it and would advise checking it out.

.......but for the general rule of thumb the fish should bite better during a falling pressure or a relatively low pressure, i would take a drizzly overcast day over a warm bright sunny day anytime.

I down loaded 1weather. It give all the data described, teplature, dew point, UV risk, pressure and if it's rising or dropping, cloud cover, radar, surface temps, wind speed and direction, and maps over lay.

I just wish there was a way to interface my Navitronics with it.

I wish there was a way for it to interface with the fish. Seems they don't know, haven't caught a cat in the river in too many outings now.
My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

As Thunderbolt mentioned, probably should have worded it better but yes 31 is "extreme high" or "extreme pressure". In terms of fishing you'll get all sorts of numbers from different people as to what they consider "high pressure". Those numbers tend to run from 30.30 to 30.50 in most instances and can vary by region. More relevant than the actual pressure numbers is whether the barometer is rising or falling. For years many believed that high pressure or increased pressure meant the fish locked up and falling pressure meant a feeding frenzy. There's some excellent theory to both as has already been covered in this thread and the thought process behind them. I've been keeping records for a while now based on some other theories that the high pressure doesn't lock the bite up but rather causes other changes in feeding patterns and location. I'm still on the fence with research and haven't had enough high pressure days yet while keeping records. I've had some times where we've been in an awesome bite for weeks and all of the sudden the fish locked up and I blamed it on high pressure. I think now that it wasn't the fish locking up but more lack of response on my part to that high pressure and a "change" in the bite. I've also had some amazing days of fishing on high pressure days as well. In the end the best time to go fishing is when you can. If you try to plan the bite around anything other than being on the water you'll never know. I'm not aware of anything for Navionics but Humminbird has a bolt on that monitors barometric pressure and keeps records. I'm planning on putting one on my new boat once I get all the other electronics running and talking to each other. http://www.humminbird.com/Products/AS-BP/ If you're looking for an App for barometric pressure check out Weatherbug, has some other great features as well including a severe weather alert that's saved my rear on the water a few times.
