Can I use an H2O Mettle baitcaster in salt water for reds, specks, flounder etc?

Thanks.

Yep just wash with fresh water when your done. I have been using a daiwa laguna for about three years no problems. I have pulled in reds, drum specks, flounder a small hammer head etc on it. I have went thru three different rods but the reel is still good. If you are going to fish salt a lot get some salt away, and some good grease.

Yep I do nothing to them other than wash them off. I have about 6 of them in the rod rock for waders that come on charters.

I have a couple of the older style and they have held up very well, I don't dunk them though. Usually just spray them down with Reel Magic and wipe them off at the end of the day. I then oil the handles and level wind after a trip or two. When it is time to change the line I will do a more thorough clean up, oiling the bearings and and such.

I figure if they die after a few years I am that much ahead compared to a more expensive reel.

Thanks. I have used my Curado and 5500C3 but wasn't sure how the Mettle would hold up. Really a great freshwater reel. Just didn't want to ruin it if it was not up to the salt.

A good coating and wipe down with Reel Magic or Corrosion X before and after help level wind reels a lot in the salt.

A year or so ago I bought a Pinnacle Alyssa Pro for $40 somewhere, and the thumbar gave me fits, it would stick every other cast, I took it apart, greased it, and it would do the same thing again. I finally just flooded the reel with Reel Magic and some light oil and it has worked like a champ ever since, go figure.

The bearings are starting to get noisy, but it is still casting like a pro, I think I got my $40 out of it easily. Interesting thing is that it has magnetic brakes, I use it to throw 1 or 2 ounces on a lighter cut bait rig, AND it has backlashed maybe twice since I got it.

I just got my first C3, haven't used it much, how do you like it? Haven't used a Garcia round reel since the CB back in my Florida days.
