Was thinking of checking this lake out - never been on it...what is the best ramp to use - not sure if the meth heads visit any of the ramps and try and help themselves to your stuff, is there a gate and a fee ?...and as far as running the lake TPWD website says there is standing timber in the upper arms - is their trails threw it or just get in and hit em...LOL...also the TPWD site says the lake has hydrilla - does the lake still have it ?...thanks in advance !

My boys!

I do hunt, and I do fish, and I don't apologize to anybody for hunting and fishing.

No sir, my tournament season is over for the year so it's time to fun fish, since Joe Pool is a slot lake we'll never fish there - the fact that it is almost full of water is a real treat to boot !

absolutely not a guru.. but its where I have been fishing for the last year.. moved to Texas last year. JP fishes a lot smaller than it is because of a couple of reasons. The basic orientation of the lake is 2 big creeks.. one that runs SW to NE and the other kind of S to N. When the wind is out of the South. which is the majority of the time.. its capping big time near the dam which is on the north end. As the TPWD says, the standing timber is in the upper ends of both creeks. I have only fished the Walnut Creek side of the timber and there are no marked channels through the trees, but they are primarily on the east side of the creek, so its easy to go around the timber, but its really shallow on the upper end of the timber.
I use the Loyd Park ramp.. its part of Loyd Park which is run by the city of Grand Prairie.. I think its pretty safe and secure. It will cost you $10/launch or $125 for an annual pass.
I fished it Friday.. caught 4 too little to keep, but I hadn't been on the water in 3 weeks.

Good luck
BD

I would hope you had better things to do than police this forum for people asking question about fishing on a fishing forum.

I don't want to speak for Ed, but this Joe Pool high school tournament is going to have 100+ boats in it most likely and I would guess that there is 30+ dads where it's their first bass tournament ever and are trying to figure a lot of things out and want to try and create a fun experience for their two student anglers in the boat. THSBA set rules on not trying to get an unfair advantage before a tournament, so given the tournament is in a week, Ed probably assumed it was one of the boat captains and was reminding the poster of the rules. Would assume that after a couple of tournaments, the high school boat captains won't need reminding. BTW, Ed is a teacher and volunteering his time to be Tournament Director (and his responsibility to police), job I sure would want to go along with my day job. Just my two cents...
