We have a bright yellow 2001 beetle... I want a truck or SUV, no budget for one.

I think of my self as a diehard GM guy; but that's because I know so much about the LSx / duramax engines and drive trains. But I also have a soft spot for VW diesel cars and trucks. I'm amazed at the Ford ecoBoost engines and the new PSD 6.4/6.7 turbo system. What I really am is a direct injection, turbo charged, diesel/gas engine fan.

Once I read about the fact that they tried to use their bankruptcy declaration to get out of paying those families of the deceased...I closed them out of my options.

No offense, but if you think the same kind of corruption isn't going on at all the other manufacturers then ive got some ocean front property in Arizona id like to sell ya.

And bankruptcy is bankruptcy it should have gotten them out of paying by definition.
Ford did lot's of covering up too when those Pinto's were blowing up left and right!!!

I wasn't even alive when the pinto was around...again this thread isn't about Ford. It's about GM pride. When I first started driving (2001) GM had an awesome reputation to go along with their trucks. I loved my 02 1500HD. I stated why I take no more pride in GM considering RECENT events....not events from 40+ years ago. Do they still make a good truck???most likely yes. But the garbage they tried to pull doesn't fly with me. The cover up bothered me. The excuse that they tried to use to not pay the families after the cover up had been uncovered...was disgusting.

PS: the pinto had to be in a crash to blow up...if I'm correct...GMs defect caused crashes and deaths.

The only reason GM's defects are even in the media is modern times. To me the whole ignition failure deal is a bunch of BS anyway. No way they should be recalling all the vehicles they did. A car can die going down the road from any number of things, just because it does doesn't make the manufacturer responsible... especially when out of warranty etc.

GM kept on producing these vehicles with the faulty ignition when they knew about the faulty ignition...they got caught. THAT'S why they did so many recalls.

By the way: it's not vehicles that are out of warranty being recalled. Vehicles as recent as 2014 (Cadillac CTS, Camaro, Impala) have been recalled for the ignition switch "falling out of the on position". They are recalling vehicles all the way back to 1998...supposedly they knew about the problem in 2000. Yet they are recalling vehicles as recent as 2014 models. For 14 years GM knowingly made vehicles with a problem that wound up killing people. GM screwed up bad...and tried to use a pathetic excuse to not compensate families when they darn well had/have the means to do it...You can't blame this on the media. Especially considering GM was supposed to be the governments bail out golden child. The left leaning gov't media would have kept their mouths shut...but they knew it was way too serious.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

At the end of the day, it's about making money. Period point blank and simple. Any auto manufacturer is going to do what it can to try and slide under the radar in order to protect the bottom line. It's the cold hard truth. Every auto manufacturer has done some shady stuff in their past. For continued to make the pinto for how long after they realize it blew up? How many years was dodge/chrisler known for their transmissions and drive trains that ate them self? Jeep still has the death wobble to this day and they know about it but seem to refuse to correct the issue. How many deaths has the "wobble" caused?

I have owned more than one of the vehicles with the "problemed" ignition and never had a problem. I think it is more liberal govt. making companies pay for things beyond their control than a faulty part.

GM was the liberal governments precious baby a few years ago. The liberal gov't saw the fly in the ointment and realized that they could no longer protect GM... Not when it was something this nasty...and that's alot to say about our liberal gov't. They are all about cover ups and corruption. They bailed on GM because they saw that there was no defending this one.

I agree with Nitro on this one. I know it's a hard pill to swallow when you are a die hard GM fan, but it is what it is.
