Looking to fish the surf this weekend or next, any tips on catching the bull reds or any reds for that matter. Just sick of catching whiting. Will be fishing Surfside beach

Also, how is the seaweed. It was pretty bad earlier this summer.

I haven't been to the Gulf in a long time, but from what I have heard off of the 91st pier website, the bulls are running now, and seaweed is starting to calm itself down.

Fillet a medium sized whiting leave a piece of tail fin on both fillets. hook once through the shoulder meat and toss it out. check and or change fillet every 20 minutes or so.

Bull reds should start running upper coast in earnest next couple of weeks. I have seen it absolutely off the chain in years past around last week of September/1st wk of October. The pier where the old Flagship hotel used to be is one of the hotspots when they come in.

BTW, if I lived near the coast, sure wouldn't mind taking some of the bigger whiting off your hands. Pretty fair to middlin' eating.
