Yes. Don't run it wide open.

Not sure of how to get the very best mileage, but you'll improve your mileage substantially by not running it wide open.

Bass & Walleye Boating magazine used to be around and they would always test a rig each moth and list the performance figures. Nearly all of the outboards got the best mileage when run at 4500-5000 rpm range. Many of the new DFI motors on a bass rig like Merc Optimax & Yam HPDI would get 4.5 to 5 mpg at that rpm. That is excellent for any boat.

run it like you stole it WFO!! Who cares about fuel consumption.
Another way to save fuel is trailer to the nearest ramp to the area you want to fish.

make sure you change your lower unit oil, if your prop is all dinged up have it repaired - make sure your proped right so your motor is running in the right RPM range, inspect your spark plugs making sure they are clean and gapped right, change any filters, run a can of Sea Foam with every fill up to keep the carbon buildup down and injectors clean, don't put everything you own in the boat - figure what your going to use and pack light, and most of all drive moderate speeds...good luck !

Leave it in the shop, carport, ect... LOL... But that would be true for any non-electric vehicle.

actually if ur boat is set up right wot is the best mileage. sounds weird but think about it. if at wot it takes 30 minutes to get to ur spot and at 4500 it takes 52 minutes u save in the amount of time u ran. does't make sence but I can attest this is true in a 20ft stratos with a 200 merc
