My sister is an agent with State Farm so I "thought" I was going to get her to insure my boat. She was over twice as expensive as the competition for the same policy.

Was also asked the question that if I needed to file a claim on a boat, do I want an appraiser showing up that is used to estimating damage on automobiles.

Ended up going with West Coast Marine Insurance.

Im pretty sure State Farm has adjusters that only handle boat losses. At one point in time they may have been the same adjusters for auto, but now im pretty sure they have dedicated adjusters that ONLY handle watercraft. If I'm not mistaken they moved their entire company boat operation hub to the Dallas Operations Center not too long ago.

You would be wrong.
For at least the last 10 years they have not had marine adjusters that come look at boats. 98% of the time we send them pictures and a estimate and they mail a check. The other 2% they hire a 3rd party marine surveyor to look at the damage. Up until recently the team of in house adjusters we sent our estimates/photos to were very experienced. That isn't the case anymore...

Lots has changed with them. Sad to say.
