I made up some of my own homemade "slinky" weights while watching some football. A while back I ordered several hundred 1/4 egg weights off eBay. I use 8 per a weight to make a 2 ounce weight. I use a size 1 or 1/0 swivel and use my normal 80# leader material. I tie a palomar knot and leave two long ends. I then slide on eight egg sinkers and tie a couple of overhand knots. I cut the line leaving about an inch on both lines. Next, I cover with heatshrink tubing from harbor freight. I usually use these when drifting clipped to a sinker slide (I get my sinker slides from Bottom Dwellers). This makes an easy change to a 3 ounce disc sinker when anchored. When I store my rods for the day I unclip the weights. This reduces the line tangles while trailering. For the most part these have worked out pretty well for me, although they won't get you past a submerged tree line. I found that out the other day...hence the new batch of weights.

But they don't last too long. Also been purchasing the team catfish drift sinkers, but at 5 bucks for three 2 oz slinkie weights are getting to be hella pricey. Lol

Contrary to popular belief, there ain't nothing new in fishing, whatever you come up with someone somewhere has already thought of and used the method. The SanteeCooper rig was used by one of my fathers uncles in the early 50's. He used a wine cork and toothpick.
