Hello Fellow Anglers!

I fish mostly freshwater, but have dabbled in saltwater a bit.

Anyway, I am taking a trip down to Galveston this Wednesday - Sunday and have heard that San Luis Pass is a great spot to catch some fish. I'm just looking for a few pointers from folks that have fished there...For example, things to do...things not to do etc. I would love to catch my first shark, so any tips on that are welcomed.

Thank you!

Never fished SLP but hear about a lot of people getting stuck in the sand, so take your 4WD if you have one. I hear there is current in the area too, so bring some weight.

Good luck!

I usally fish san luis pass. It has very strong currents so wear a pfd when wading. I use a double drop rig with a 2/0 j hook. You can castnet mullet or by bait at bright light bait camp. The freeport side is usally more crowded. I usally walk out to waste deep water{ when the water is calm, but still be careful.}. You can catch trout on topwater and live shrimp and mirrolures. You can use mullet for flounder and redfish. Still shuffle your feet.

SLP was not fishable on Labor Day due to the seaweed. I hope you have better luck. If you fish the pass, watch for sudden drop offs. Lifeguards in yellow trucks will call you out if you try to wade on the Galveston side so just be careful.

Thanks guys, very helpful. I'll make sure to give you guys a report on the trip, hopefully we have some good catches. Jean, I'll be down there for awhile, so we will probably give Rollover Pass a shot too.
