Thanks J-Moe.... Been busy with other things not related to fishing. To keep things in check, wrote an online article about the day trip to the LMF; provides a Newbie's view of the area. May be of interest to some....

Lower Mountain Fork River - Trout Fishing Day Trip

[Linked Image]

Decided to take another day trip to Beavers Bend State Park and fish the Lower Mountain Fork River again. Learned some of the terminology for describing the area... Started fishing the river downstream from the Cold Hole. Had some little Trout nipping my fly else no luck. Did see one fisherman catch a Trout; was able to get video of the action. Unfortunately, the video quality was not good as I was too far away. Still was good to see someone hooking up!

Went to Lost Creek and caught a Rainbow Trout using a Prince Nymph. Also, caught little minnow-looking fish and a little Rainbow Trout that went for an Egg Pattern and/or Red Midge. Then, fished Spillway Creek and lost a few Rainbow Trout; no video... either did not have the camera on or the fish wiggled away before I could get video.

Finally, ended the trip fishing to rising Trout in the Cold Hole. After several misses and turn-aways fishing a BWO, had one take the dry fly... turned out to be a Brown Trout! Overall, it was a good day. Area had a lot of fishermen but that was expected since it was Saturday.

Fished Spillway Creek in Beaver Bend State Park Saturday; also did a little looking around and captured video of some of the changes that have occurred due to the flood damage earlier this year. Saturday's Video. Still working on the fishing video; will post soon as it's done. Did manage to catch two Rainbow Trout - 18" and 15.5"!

Fshng84 great stuff! I know it will be a change from the warm water stuff we are used to. But when landing even the smallest of trout make sure to dip your hand in the water to land them. It will really help protect their skin coat not handling them with dry hands. It will help in their survival rate after being caught. Looks like you on a good path to catching trout though so keep it up.

Like the new look too TarpnFly! Is different but am missing the wild Rainbow Trout; did not run into any of them this round.

PS: Congrats to the new Dad! :-)

Thanks Robert Hunter! Trout fishing is great; makes sense on the dry hands. Will prepare for the blasts that will follow from the video posted; second trout is landed on the shoreline instead of netted in the water.... blush

Here is the follow-up video from Saturday's fishing trip to Beaver Bend State Park in Oklahoma. Used a Five Weight Fly Rod/Reel and fished a Tandem Rigged Near Deere and trailing Prince Nymph. Worked several pools and runs along Spillway Creek.

Hooked a couple of Trout but lost them shortly after when they threw the fishing fly. Also, hooked and landed two nice Rainbow Trout - 18" and 15.5" trout that put up a great fight (as well as a great dinner Saturday evening - see Grilled Plank Recipe).

Had a great time fishing. Liked that it was warm enough that we could wet wade; no waders needed this round! Also, saws other doing well catching them with bait but unfortunately, was not able to see what baits they were using.

Fun stuff! Saturday's Fishing Action.

@Fshng84:
You might also try:
-a simple caddis larva imitation nymph in chartreuse, about size 14. I've had really good luck with that, especially in Spillway. Mine is just a chartreuse dubbed body with a peacock thorax/head. Egg patterns are perhaps the most dependable thing of all, but especially around spawning time in winter. Thread midges, brown is my favorite. When you start seeing movement close to the surface, a size 18 or 20 Barr's emerger or Pueblo emerger (which I usually tie because it's so darn simple and it works) in BWO colors is often very effective. That or sometimes a caddis emerger.

Here is the video from yesterday's trip to the Lower Mountain Fork. It was a tough day of fishing with lots of fish in the area as evidenced by the underwater video shots of Trout lurking in the area we fished. Did catch five and missed a lot more. All in the Red Zone, so we had to let them go save for the one Keeper that went 20"!

PS: We knew there were lots of Trout in the pool we fished but after reviewing the underwater video, we saw there we a lot more! Yesterday's Video.

An attempt at tying the Rainbow Warrior Fishing Fly - the fishing fly that worked this past Saturday! Rainbow Warrior.

Fished the LMF Saturday; lotta fun. Had to breakout the video into two videos - morning in the Red Zone and afternoon in the Blue Zone. Really like the place!
LMF Part 1 and LMF Part 2.
