My go to worm rod is a 6'6" Falcon Bucoo medium action. I have started to think that it isn't sensitive enough for a worm rod. Any suggestions on a rod around $150 that has better sensitivity than my Bucoo?

Save your money until you can go top of the line. Kistler, St. Croix, Dobyns, g.Loomis whatever your budget decides. At $150 you will be wanting more soon. Worming is a method that small differences in sensitivity pay big rewards. Small increments in sensitivity cost ever expanding ranges of cash. You can save money by going used, looking for deals and waiting for the right rod.

You don't have to make a huge change to get the sensitivity you're looking for. I use a Bucoo 7 ft m/hvy (5 power) and it does the job fine. If I put this rod in your hand compared to the 6'6" med you are using the differences would be very noticeable ,

I've been a devout worm fisherman since I was 10!!!! 38 years it's been my first bait in the water. . many will tell you to spend 400$ on something.... But I say if you can't feel the bite or the cover with a TFO Tactical, sunline shooter flouro, and protungsten weights.....you should quit! Difference between a 400$ rod and some 160$ rods is maybe....MAYBE a few percentage points in feel, quality, looks..... Just my 2

Forgot to mention it needs to be med/heavy and at least 7'.......I never use less than 16 lb test on a Texas rig either.

Don't use a medium action rod for worms. . .that may be why the sensitivity is lacking. Bucoos are good, sensitive rods. My main worm rods are a MH Bucoo and a Heavy Falcon HD.

How much difference in feel do you get from the medium to MH action rods for the worm rods?

For me personally, I've never used a medium action rod for worm fishing. I require a rod with a fast tip and a good backbone to drive the hook home and then be able to muscle the fish from any type of cover.

I've fished medium action rods on topwaters and lures that are small and light.

The sensitivity of a rod depends on the material and the components it is made of. They don't get more sensitive just because they get heavier in action.

The only time I use a M action rod for worming is for a drop shot. When I tx. rig a worm, I use a M/H action rod so I can have enough backbone to set the hook and get them to the boat quickly.
