I'd like to take my 9 year old out on Monday without having to drive over an hour. He has a Hobie Sport and I have a PA12. I would love to find a pond like the ones in Sherman...I'm a little nervous about taking him out on a lake; he's only been on his yak 3 or 4 times.

Besides Lake Worth or Marine Creek, I really don't know of any small lake or ponds close to us. I tried lake Weatherford a few weeks ago, but wasn't too impressed with it being so low right now.

Thanks in advance!!

Life's short, better enjoy it while it lasts!

The LBJ Grasslands have several small lakes that are perfect for yakkin. They are all very low right now (what lake isn't) but there are several to chose from in a relatively small area. I would recommend clear lake or black creek. Also, Lake Mineral Wells is very nice and just a about 40 minutes west of Lake Weatherford.

I spent most of the weekend at Clear Lake in LBJ. Grasslands. I didn't take my yak, but we saw several out there. It does seem like a pretty great place to yak. I didn't get over to them, so I'm not sure what it's like, but there are a lot of stumps in the lake. I'm not sure if there are any below surface but there are a lot exposed.
