Seriously they'll hit a rubber dog turd. Make sure you have a lot of line and plenty of time.

If you're in the bay, you'll see the schools tearing the water up as they chase baitfish. Look for what looks like a rouge wave whitecapping the water.

Like Pat Goff says, be ready for a fight. A 15lb Crevalle is a fierce fighter.

State record is 50lbs...but getting into schools of 20lbr's isn't uncommon. You'll think you have a 60lb'r on your line. Unreal fighters. I caught one that was just under 25lbs, and I gotta tell you was a tremendous battle, LOL. Took F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to get him to the boat. Unhooked, and off to live another day....

I am not asking yall to give away any "secret" spots, but could yall give me a general area. Remember I do not have a boat.

Thanks

They roam around in schools. Generally passes from gulf to bay are best but I've seen them miles from a pass in a foot of water in a back lake. And very un predictable

After you catch a couple that will get it out of your system.

Mullet works great. I'm gonna be looking for them this month. They are some of the best fighting fish you will find. I fish them with light tackle. Going to Work on the IGFA record this winter.

Well, if you're chasing the school, depth doesn't matter.

Otherwise, you'll adjust your fishing rigging according to depth, water color, wind speed.....etc....just like any other species you target.

If they are there. They will bit anything you throw at them. Silver spoon, DOA shrimp, live/dead shrimp, mullet (and cut bait), and anything you throw.

Its an fun fight. Sometimes I couldnt tell if its an King or an Crevalle wink

A Jack could tow a King backwards and still be a heck of a fight. Pound for pound they rank in the top fighting fish.

They do fight hard but I would rather not hook up with one. If I'm fishing with bait, I will try to break my line to be rid of them.

I personally never caught any jack with bottom fishing so I cant say. Just throwing spoon or fish everything I mention under an bobber and that reel wont work with either of what I just mention. I believe those are for surf fishing or huge fish like shark since they hold a lots of line. As you can tell. I know nothing about big baitcaster.

200ish yard of 40lb braid is good enough for me.

Most of my Jacks were caught in Florida on topwaters or something under a cork. I usually targeted them when there wasn't anything else biting at the time. There were usually small to medium sized schoolies.

I tend to catch more Pompano on bottom rigs in the surf than Jacks, they are hard to tell the difference unless you look closely at them. Need to do a search on the differences so you can do the right ID.

That Black Max should work OK, just rinse it and keep it lubed. A Garcia C3 is pretty heavy to toss lures with all day although it can be done. I used to use 5000 and 6000 CBs back in the day when I fished for Bass, Catfish, etc in Florida. That was before braids were popular and the cover was very thick so heavy monos were the line choice.

Try the rocks just next to the pier at Seawolf park. I always see them busting up there. When I see them come around I take all my lines out. smile

These guys are tough fighters. I used a baby one once on a slide rig and after a whole day of skipping around on the surface with a 3/0 hook in his back, he was as feisty as when I put him on. Compare that to a piggy or blue runner that will last only a few hours in warm weather.

You aint Lyin!!!! We catch them on 30lb braid with spoons and spinners....hold on...your drag is your best friend. We use Shimano Calcuttas mainly...works well. If you don't have 200-300 yds of line...gonna be over quickly.

Used to fish the Naples, FL pier for years with my grandpa. He always rigged me up with jigs with a live shrimp.

Like everyone is saying, they'll hit just about anything.

Look you guys ain't getting this. Jacks wander around without any reason to be where they are. They'll hit anything that moves, and do a decent job of tearing stuff up.

When you see them you catch them if you don't see them they aren't there

And you don't want to try to eat one.
