I was wondering if anyone that lives close to the DFW area is going on the Williams Party Boats 36hr tuna trip in Galveston on September 2nd and 3rd.

After seeing their Facebook pics of hanging the tuna in the sun to show off on the way in... no thanks. I won't ever.

How come? Because of the fish size or hanging in the sun? All party boats do that, well at least the ones in Galveston. They usually hang them right before they come in and they are still cold when you get your fish. It might not be like the private charter but cant beat $400 if you know how to catch them. Unfortunately last time I didn't catch any well land any cause my new line was bad and kept on braking.

Only the PB in Galveston do it and they all do. It's a Galveston thing.
The boats here in Port A .... and there are many more boats .... put the tuna in an ice water bath to bleed when caught then keep the tuna on ice until they hit the dock. Once they are at the dock they lay them out on a tarp with ice on top of them while they are being distributed to the catchers.

Pretty much what the Galveston boats do except after entering the jetty, they are hung up. Once docked, they are immediately handed out. No laying on the ground with very little ice around them on a hot day. Just a different way to do it. I'm not sure why the hanging fish bother some people but I'm guessing that they are people that haven't been on the boats. When you receive the fish, they are too cold to hold comfortably with your bare hands. Galveston Party boats puts the fish in a salt water slurry for the trip home so they are near freezing. Not sure what the Capt John does but the fish are cold.

I fished the Captain John (Williams party boats) this summer on a 12 hour trip. I thought the boat was very slow and the air conditioning did not work very well. The crew was OK, not the best I have seen but far from the worst. We caught some fish but I think the Captain could have worked a little harder. I've heard the longer trips are not too bad but I like to do more "fishing" on my fishing trips and a little less time "riding".

All of the party boat is slow , so the ride is going to be long. The only way to ride less and fish more is to book with the guide that have a smaller boat (30'-40')...

That is true but I usually go by myself on the tuna trips because most of my friends can afford it unless I pay for their ticket too. I don't mind spending $400 to do a 36hr tuna trip but spending $1500 to $2000 by myself I cant see doing for the same fish but a faster boat.
