Yesterday while idling around looking for structure spots I was having troubles pinpointing spots with my new graph. How much of a delay is there from when the transducer goes over something to it appearing on the screen? I ask because it just seemed that things were way off and I couldn't get a marker anywhere close to the target.

Idle past something you can actually see if your using Side Image(Boat ramp, tree, bridge column) For Down Image or sonar find something with a Jig and mark it with a marker buoy then idle by, remember to also match your chart speed to your boat speed. This will give you real info on your unit and set up.

Depth also plays a role real shallow you're cone is covering a small area so what you're seeing is right below the boat. When you're out in 30' of water that cone is covering a lot more ground so the brush pile you pick up on the outside edge of the cone might actually be pretty far from your boat. You can adjust to a higher frequency to narrow the cone angle but in doing so your coverage is going to be less.

Sometimes I'll drop a way point from 2d or SI then come back over it in di set on high freq then fish it vertical or drop a marker.

When you idle over something, drop a buoy. Turn around, idle back over, drop another buoy, fish in between them. That will give you an idea of what your dealing with as far as speed is concerned.

Also with my Lowrance if you're in split screen with sonar and chart when you use the cursor to mark the target on your sonar screen it will tell you the distance from the boat to the cursor in feet on the chart screen if you just want an idea of the distance.

I never thought about chart speed. Have to remember the transducer is several feet behind me as well.
