We learned this one in class last week. Since then, I've tied about a dozen of them. A couple of weeks ago, I attended my first class and had a ball. The lady that sat next to my wife and I has been tying for a couple of years and she really was a big help to me. I noticed that she takes very good notes in addition to tying her fly. For some reason, she missed the last class, so I tied her this one, so she will at least have some record of what we did.

I use the cheap braid from hobby lobby and put the tulip glow paint in the middle void for fishing deep with my teeny sink line.

here's some I'm experimenting with using jighooks so the fly will ride hook point up. I'm thinking it would work a little better with 60 degree jighooks but I'm out.

here's one tied on a #10 nymph hook with the tail made from the innards of the braid

here's one tied with a squirrel hair tail to sink quicker and deeper

none of mine look as good as HMK's but the fish like them and theyre fun to tie and fish. I fished with Charley a time or two. He's one of the premier Texas fly men-p-

Famed Texas fly fishermen Charlie Cypert is responsible for developing many of the regions most successful fly patterns for bass and panfish. The Cyperts Minnow is probably best known for use during the white bass spawning run where fly fishermen with sinking lines have had great success in the rivers that feed into our hill country lakes.

jboy is right, and the Cypert Mylar Minnow is a great fly -- I've caught lots of species on it, in both fresh and saltwater. I had the great privilege to see Charlie tie a few of these flies at the old Austin Angler about 15 years ago. Try all the variations that Pearow has pictured above -- they're real fish getters!

Charley made a little balsa popper which he sold all over the USA. It was a beautiful little topwater; too pretty to fish. I bought one at the Austin angler years ago for $10 bucks! (They obviously were proud of them!!!) I'll find one and take a pic. He spoke a couple of times at Fly Fish Texas and always had a roomful; one of the good guys, like Al Crist and some others-p-
edit: here's the little popper; I might have exaggerated the price a mite but they were very expensive. I only have 2 or 3 left and I quit fishing them. I bought this one after Charley retired from fishin and tyin. He made all of them exactly the same size, weight, color, etc.I could never figure out how he did it and he wouldn't tell-p-

Great tie HMK. Looks perfect for fishing the white bass run in the creeks.

I first met Charlie Cypert in the early 90's at the opening of the 1st Orvis store. A few weeks later West Bank Anglers opened and Mr. Cypert was tying his Mylar Minnows and was one of the very first flies I learned to tie.
Wouldn't hazard a guess how many I have tied to date, as well as many variations.
Love that little fly - tied in many variations, it will catch any fish that swims.

I'm really enjoying everyone pictures and stories. I just started tying about 3 weeks ago and I am having a blast! Prior to that, I started out by whittling on a pecan stick and made a top water lure. I've done some wooden lures, crappie jigs, flys. I've bought a bunch of tying material. This gets real expensive, real fast. I think now, I'd like to take up fly fishing.

Big fan of these. Took a smallmouth trip last year and the water cleared way up on the last day and the fish got super spooky. Finally figured out that they couldn't resist a gold one of these that just slowly fell down along a rock drop off and then twitched just before the bottom. I think i was the only one in our group that caught fish that day and everyone else was cheating wink
