Launched the kayak off of Oak Grove Park this morning and saw several bass boats anchored about 50-75 yards off of the beach. Didn't look like they were catching anything. Once they left, I trolled where they were and it looked like there was a lot of structure and a lot of fish from looking at my Elite 4 hdi. Could not get anything to bite. I have been to Grapevine maybe 5 times and skunked each time. I hear it is very finicky. Anybody with the same experience? Or any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to get into the sand bass early on the north shore from Murrell park to the dam.
If they aren't schooling on top look for them on the humps in 15-18 FOW with silver slabs. They may not be on top of the humps, maybe off to the side but in the 15-18' range.

I can't tell from your description exactly where you were on Grapevine. There are three ramps in the Oak Grove area. Could have been off the island.
The south side of the island is a popular spot and in past years there were a lot of sand bass schooling off the south end of the island. I haven't seen that this year. The water may not be deep enough with the lake so low.
Another decent spot, besides the advice from pelican, is the mouth of Twin Coves and just south of there. Pretty common to see schools of sand bass.
For largemouth, you could try twin coves, the bluff on the north side of McPherson Slough (the big cove near Oak Grove), the point opposite sand bass point. Sand bass point is quite shallow but the point opposite is deep.

Meadowmere area has produced some good sandies and some largies scattered here and there recently for me. Its been hit or miss, just gotta find where theyre schooling and you'll really smack em. Fish by the island and the big point for sandies and the boathouses back in the creek for largies.

I launched off of the middle boat ramp. The island was to my left when I launched. I was trolling about 75 yards off of the beach and was seeing what looked like humps. There was several bass boats there so I believe I was in the correct spot. They weren't pulling anything in either. It's possible that me trolling with a roadrunner wasn't getting it deep enough. Will have to try slabs. From my fishfinder, it looked like they were deep holding close to the bottom. Going to go out again this weekend and try again. If someone sees me, I am in a yellow outback. Thanks for all the info.

Try swimming some big football jigs deep, I think the fish are chasing either small shad or big bluegill, so mimicking either of those has been helpful. 3xd and bandit 300 series crankbaits and jigs have been the producers deep for me.

Haha well skunked again. Went out to oak grove again and there was 1 boat catching a lot of small ones it looked like. Poor guys then a bunch of people came around them. I kept my distance. Once they left, I went and marked what they were fishing and tried that spot myself. Tried slabs, football jigs, blue and silver spoon and a roadrunner. Nuttin. Guess Grapevine isn't my lake.

I launch from McPherson Slough Ramp
Fish around the boat houses (hit or miss) then I troll around the point and usually catch a few sandies every trip. Haven't been skunked yet. Hooked up on a nice long nose gar couple weeks ago.
