So im planning to go on a deep sea fishing trip i was looking into 4 different places, 2 in galveston and 2 in Port A Port A seems to have charters that are 50 dollars more expensive(140) while galveston has charters that are around 80 my 4 choices are Galveston Capt John http://www.galveston.com/captjohn/plan.htmland galvestonpartyboats http://www.galvestonpartyboatsinc.com/pricing.htmlPort Aransas are Dolphin Dock http://dolphindocks.com/5-to-12-hour-trip-info/and Fishermans Wharf http://wharfcat.com/summer.htmi need help choosing 1, id really like to bring on my own gear because i am told that the gear that charters provid is mediocre, ( i have a penn 6/0 with a boat rod) id really like to hear from people with experience, ive used dolphin dock before and it was great but its pricy compared to galveston

IMO you'll be better off fishing port A 9 times out of 10. FW,deep sea HQ or DD should all put you on fish. The trick is catching the little devils

I used Galveston Party Boats in May and had a blast. Caught probably 20 vermillion snapper, 30 or so red snapper, and an amberjack. Several guys caught bigger amberjack, some Kings and a couple of sharks. Their equipment is subpar so bring your own (I have a couple of Penn 113h with 50lb mono that worked great). If you want to pick up a bonus Mahi or two, bring a big spinning outfit with a 2 oz Spro Jig (that is if they are in the area). Good food on board (bring cash to tip deck hands and for the grill). Comfortable boat and a good day overall. Take the 12 hr charter vs. the 8 hour. Higher quality fish and a good amount of time to fish. My 2 cents.

+100 on GPB, bring your own gear, use their weights, 12 hr trip or longer is a must, the Capt John's food policy has lost a lot of good fishermen and gets more tourists and 1st timers. A nice 4 or 6/0 Senator is a perfect affordable reel with all the backbone you would need, with these if you tangle and use line you still have plenty without respooling. Galveston party Boats with Capt Matt is #1 there.
