August fishing on Richland Chambers Lake
August fishing is kind of hot, kind of hard but you know we still catch fish. I may have to look around more for fish because the fish just aren't in the same place twice.
There is just a little schooling action going on now but you better be looking right at it are you will miss it. It's funny, I expect schooling action at day light but the stronger schooling action could be mid morning. Most of the schools have some really nice sand bass in them and some even better fish suspended under the school. When they are feeding they are easy to catch. Right now I like to cast out my slab and reel it back quickly and you will catch a fish almost every cast.
To catch the fish under the surface action, look on your graph and it will tell you how deep the fish are suspended. If youre in deep water say 30 feet are better you may have to reel up 8 to 10 times from the bottom to have your bait in the fish which may be suspended 15 to 20 feet down. It's tricky because sometimes in 30 feet of water even this time of year, the fish could actually be on the very bottom. So pay close attention to your depth finder so you know exactly where to put your bait.
Late morning after I get my sand bass I GO LOOKING FOR THE HYBRIDS!!
They will be hanging off the long points in water 35 to 40 feet deep and suspended in the water column about half way down. I'll put on bigger bait and make a few passes at them because everyone likes to catch a big fish.
