It looks somewhat short sighted that Minn Kota did not design the Ulterra to be used with down scan-side scan Humminbird units since there is no longer a slot in the shaft to run the down scan-side scan transducer cable in .this limits the user to two D sonar only.so if you run a 1198 on the front you are SOL with this unit. looks like someone was asleep at the wheel

I'm running the Terrova with an 1198 at the bow and will be extremely disappointed if this is the case. It seems like it would be possible to run my side imaging transducer cable through the shaft itself if it was designed to allow this or even better build the side imaging transducer in like they do with a regular transducer. Might be some way to mod it, but probably void the warranty.

Are you positive there is no slot on the side, I can't find a video or pic online that clearly shows there is no slot on the shaft? Hopeful for a solution once it launches in the Fall.

Would like to know now so I can start saving for this thing, the auto stow and deploy look amazing, and it looks much tougher than the Terrova.

It will eventually cut the wire at the bottom of the shaft..

After 2 dead transducers, I just use US2.

Its dissapointing, their flagship TM wont work with their flagship fish finders...

Features "Bullcrap Technology" as seen on TV!

I am extremely disappointed that the spot lock on this trolling motor will not work with Lowrance since we don't all use Humminbird but a lot of us run Lowrance with MK trolling motors. I will not pay out the big bucks to switch out my Lowrance for HB just to be able to use spot lock. I have an anchor and a long rope.

Um sorry, but that's not how this works. MK and Humminbird are part of the same company. Asking MK to work with Lowrance is like asking Ford to make their parts work with Chevy. Also, you don't need a Humminbird at all to use spot lock, it's a feature that works through the GPS built into a MK Terrova or the optional unit for their other models of electric steer trolling motors that work independently of the depth finder.

I understand the reasoning behind MK and Humminbird being the same company and therefore are tied together. What you are saying is spot lock will work with any depth finder because the GPS is in the head of the trolling motor. I specifically ask MK if I could use spot lock with a Lowrance and their answer was NO.

Thats wrong, dont know why they told you that. Heck you dont even need a fish finder at all to use it.
