Ive been fishing the TR for a while and have recently noticed some bass had the same deal going on i think something is attacking them. yep yep ...

Not sure Ketchn, but that damage to the tail where it is located could have been a scrape with brush or bridge piling as you reeled him in. Could be anything. As far as the color, on Bachman, in the summer, the few and far between crappie you can catch, when the stars align just so, have a darker than normal color. In fact, Bachman crappie have more color to them year round than almost any crappie from anywhere else. It also has nothing but white crappie in it. Fishing it since 1975, and have NEVER caught a legitimate black crappie out of it, just blackened spawning males in the spring, which are mistakenly called "black crappie" by the weekenders that frequent that lake during spawn.
Rudy its a hoot to hear the reports from the once a year folks ketchn crappie on minnerz aint it.... I ketched me a limit a black crappie right here yeaterday ... really ? I don't see many in here and none this year ...interesting ...are you sure they was black crappie ? why heck yeah I know the difference between a black crappie and a white crappie ....  okee dokeee then I say as he pulls out a male white in full spawn colors ....  KABOOM

My bad!!!!!! Banger, you got to remember this is coming from the the guy who has caught 4 crappies that weighed more than 3 pounds and one of them was over 4 pounds and............................... He Didn't Weight Any of Them.

I have been catching a lot of big green sunfish that had tattered tails, but they were on the beds, so they have an excuse. I could see them on the beds as I was catching them, lol.
