Been reading this forum for a long time so finally decided to join in!

Had a great day on the water with Tbox on Sunday. I seem to spend all my time in the shop and rarely get a chance to go fishing. I live on Cypress Springs, but I sold my boat a while back. Been begging Todd to take me fishing, and I think he finally ran out of excuses. Felt good to be on the water again. Not a great day of catching, but good just to get out. We caught about a dozen short ones, and six nice size keepers. Also got to watch Todd catch a nice 6.6 bass on his crappie rig. Really surprised he got it in, but sure was a purty fish! I'm hoping I can pester him enough to go again! LOL!

welcome to the forum. Glad you decided to come in out of the dark. banana

Any day on the lake is worthwhile, even if the bite is slow. smile Don't forget you can also fish the barges if he finds a new book of excuses. rolfmao

I know what it means to go without a boat. I sold my big boat when I moved back here from Slidell and did not buy a replacement for four years. I finally became tired of fishing the various barges and bought me a new one last August.

Unfortunately health problems have kept me off the lake since March. So I am looking forward to getting back on the lake again but it now looks as if that much wait till mid-September since my wife now must have back surgery at the end of the month.

I would rather die finding out there was no God than die finding out there is.

It was a slow bite to say the least - not sure if the new water in the lake, it cooled 10 degrees was the reason or what. I did find a couple of new spots that appear to have a lot of trees that were pushed up together in log jams - should be some fishing there thumb
Belinda & I fished the day before for a bit and only boated 5 keepers and a catfish. The sun was supposed to come out around 10am, but only peeked out for a couple of seconds bang

I snapped this picture of her removing a "DINK" while she wasn't looking rolfmao

While turning around to snap a picture of grasshoppers on a stump, I found a submerged tree top that held quite a few fish, but could only convince 1 keeper to bite

Almost every stump here has grasshoppers on it
noidea
Not sure why they like to take to the water, but they'll even end up in your boat with you. I thought a wasp was on the top of my boat seat, but it turned out to be a sticky legged rascal.

Now on to mine & Chuck's trip. We ran to what I've termed my "SLOB TREE" 1st. When I 1st found this spot, you couldn't keep the fish off your jig, now every time I've been back, it always yields the best fish of the trip, just not a lot of them. I boated a good fish there and we caught a few small ones, but that's it.

Ran to a larger laydown in 20 fow and Chuck got into the swing of things

I got to thinking about what Bobcat had said about the fish wanting the lure moving, so I started raising my jig about 3-4 foot off the bottom and letting the Slab Bug flutter back down. We immediately started catching a bunch of dinks clap

We then ran to where crapicat & I had loaded the boat the Sunday before, I was letting a Slab Bug slowly swing down on a 1/32oz jig and my line suddenly took straight off, drag slipped out and just as quick I had slack line hmmm

A minute or 2 later, my rod almost jerked out of my hands and after a spectacular rod bending, reel screeching session, Chuck netted a 6lb 6oz bass for me breakdance

We covered a lot of water looking at spots I had previously marked and new water, but nothing was jumping out at me. I think the fish were still scattered from the cool front.

The day ended with Chuck boating a nice beauty from the "Slob Tree"

Chuck makes the Slab Bug mold, but he has learned to love the "Lil Fry" also
cheers
Even though the fish count was down, it was a beautiful day on the water with a good friend cheers

Gee Todd, you didn't have to put my picture out there! Now everyone will know what an ugly old guy I am! LOL! You're right about the "Lil Fry". One of the fish we caught spit up a small shad, and your "Lil Fry" in silver flash, I think that's the color, looked just like it. That's what I caught that last slab on. You make some purty baits! I'm going to be adding some more crappie bait molds to our site pretty soon, and I think you'll like a couple of them. Thanks for a good day on the water. When are we going again? LOL

Thanks for all the welcomes guys. Seems like a great bunch of people on this forum. Don't know how many of you guys make your own baits, but we plan to add a lot more designs on our website for the crappie fishermen! Our 2" mini bug that Todd sells as the Slab Bug, (In some really great colors!), has been a great bait for us. Seems the crappie really nail it and we've had some great reviews on the bait! It's a smaller version of our 3.5" and 4.5" LS Bug that the bass fishermen really like as well. Anyway, thanks for the welcoming!
