Just curious if any of you cat fisherman bruise your bait fish? I have heard by Bruising(beating)your bait fish the cut bait becomes more potent because it is filled with blood. Does anybody use this technique?

I smack my carp and buffalo with a stick im confident that it helps attract fish. Could be just random but anytime ive done that the bite was in less than 5 min.

When you beat em up the blood gets infused in the meat therefore increasing the smell the meat has to offer

Believe it or not, when I was a young man, I never beat my fish... Then I went Fishing with Stinkbait Tom and it wasn't and hour into the trip and he's at the side of the boat beating his fish... Naturally I was confused by this behavior, and surely looking at him with disbelief but, before I could even ask what was going on, he looked at me and said "all of us old guys beat our fish", so being and old guy myself I have started the practice as well. Never knew what I was missing, cut bait works much better now. LOL

You should see him scale them with his bare hands after beating them up!

I've always heard that if you step on cut bait it will help to "get the juices flowing." Live bait fishermen also clip the fins of perch before tossing them out under a cork. Supposed to make them swim erratically and attract more strikes.

Seems like a good technique. I really want to catch some decent eaters.

The gene pool could use a little chlorine.
