The family and I will be going to Jamaica beach this friday 7/25 and staying through 8/1. I have been looking at Google earth trying to find some good wade fishing areas and have a few questions. Is the Carancahau Cove and Jumbile Cove areas any good or would it be better for me to look in other areas? Any help will be appreciated. Also, What are the circular things in the water in these two locations? are they oryster beds?

I will be fishing with artificial baits only. I dont have the equipment for live bait. I am thinking of topwaters early and jigheads with swim baits and paddle tails.

Try behind San Luis Pass bayside. Be careful of the currents and wear a PFD. Good luck!

If the waves are relatively mild and the wind is from a direction that does not have the word "west" in it then fish the surf. You can also access the bay a little west of Jamaica Beach at Sea Isle (next to the pier) - I have heard that the second cove east of that pier can be productve. On the other side of San Luis Pass you can access Christmas Bay.

Thanks JCG57. Is the Seaweed problem getting any better down there? Is that having a good or bad affect on the Surf Fishing? I know that seaweed holds little shrimp and stuff (Bait) so I didnt know if the trout and reds were following it as well.

I live in the DFW area so I don't know the current status of the seaweed problem - check fishing reports on the 2cool fishing web site and see how they read. I'll be in Galveston in three weeks to try the surf and bay - bringing the kayaks along to try Confederate Reef in West Bay.
