I don't see why not. I've never heard anyone say that ladybugs taste bad. Well, to fish, anyway.

Thanks everyone, I'll definately fish them. I've got to put some these in the mail, but I've got an extra half dozen for myself.

Robin, it is a "Beetle" swap. I don't have a favorite beetle pattern and I'm not sure if I've ever even tied a beetle before. Many of the beetle patterns I looked at seemed to just be spider patterns tied without rubber legs... Coming from this part of the country, I'm not sure why anyone would want to leave off the rubber legs??? So, this is what I came up with. Now that I'm done with them, the second guessing has started. I used a sz 12 3366 hook, because I had them available and the gap on a sz 18 hook was too small. But, I think a sz 14 or 16 hook would float better and have better visual proportions. I tried several spot patterns and 4 spaced evenly looked best. Random spot patterns looked terrible which surprised me, but those flies will fish just fine, but they'll stay in my own fly boxes. For anyone that is just starting to tie, this is an extremely easy fly to tie. It is just 3 wraps of medium size sparkly-style chenille in black, red 2 mm foam slightly wider than the width of the hook gap, use a Sharpie for the spots, and then two coats of clear Sally Hansen's to make it shiney (go easy on the first coat or the spots will bleed). (Bonus trick: use the Sparpie to cover any of the foam that shows through the black thread on the head.) Also, make the head slightly larger than you'd normally use, the larger head helped the proportions look better.
